The weather rescued Pakistan from being torn apart by Indian seamer Venkatesh Prasad when rain forced the Asia Cup one-day international match between the teams to be abandoned.

 Prasad took four wickets in five overs as India reduced Pakistan to 30 for five in nine overs.

Rain and weather stopped the play after 5 overs, and Umpires reduced the game from 50 to 33 overs per side to 33. When the game resumed, it had to be called off again due to weather. A fresh match will be restart on tomorrow.

Pakistan scored 30-5 in 9 overs at when play stopped - with top scorer by Saleem Malik cracked a 10 off 13-balls including a boundary, Ramiz Raja (5) and Moin Khan not out for 4.

The Asia Cup replay match between rivals India and Pakistan was abandoned without a ball being bowled after heavy overnight rain affected in Sinhalese Sports Club Ground.

The no result left the Indians with just one point from two games desperately needing a high score in their last league match against Bangladesh on Thursday to qualify for the final.

Sri Lanka ensured their place in the final by winning their first two matches against Pakistan and India.

India must defeat Bangladesh by scoring at nearly seven runs an over to squeeze through to the final ahead of Pakistan.
