Australian star batsman Mark Waugh smashed a record-breaking 173-runs knocked off facing 148-balls including 16-fours and 3-sixes with strike rate of 116.89 helped to Australia set up the massive total of 338 against West Indies in the best of 3-finals of the second final of a Tri-series.

* Mark Waugh's 173 was the highest score by an Australian batsman in One-day international cricket history, surpassing the previous record of 154 held by Adam Gilchrist against Sri Lanka at same venue in 1999.

* Mark Waugh's 173 was the ninth highest score in One-day international and the highest score by any batsman against West Indies in ODIs surpassing the previous record of 132 held by Sri Lanka's Avishka Gunawardene at Nairobi (Gym) in 2000.

* 3 : Mark Waugh hit the most centuries by an Australian batsman against West Indies in One-day international and also the most centuries hit by any batsman against West Indies in ODI cricket history surpassing the previous record of 2-hundreds jointly held by Geoff Marsh, Ramiz Raja, Saeed Anwar, Kris Srikkanth and Hashan Tillaknratne.

* 17 : Mark Waugh equalled a joint third most centuries in One-day internationals jointly with Desmond Haynes.
