Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni leads to India emphatic six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka, despite a high-class century from Mahela Jayawardene and India lift the second World Cup title after 28 years in a epic final of a ICC Cricket World Cup.

  • India won the match by six wickets - It is their second World Cup win after the 1983 World Cup and became the third team to have won the title more than once after Australia (1987, 1999, 2003 and 2007) and the West Indies (1975 and 1979).

  • 109 : Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni set up the record fourth-wicket partnership for India against Sri Lanka in World Cups, previously held by the 54-run stand between Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid at Port of Spain in the 2007 World Cup and India's joint sixth highest fourth-wicket stand against Sri Lanka in One-day internationals, jointly 109-run partnership held by between Sachin Tendulkar and Mohammad Azharuddin at Colombo (RPS) in 1997.
  • It is the second time Gautam Gambhir dismissals on nervous nineties in One-day internationals after He dismissed on 90 against Bangladesh at Karachi in 2008.
  • Mahela Jayawardene became the second Sri Lankan batsman to score a hundred in a World Cup final after Aravinda de Silva and overall the sixth player achieved this feat in a World Cup final.

Sri Lanka scored decent total of 274-6 in 50 overs with top scorer by Mahela Jayawardene 103 off 88-balls including eight boundaries - which was his 14th ODI hundred, his second century against India and his third ODI hundred in World Cups.

Kumar Sangakkara 48 off 67-balls - who fell two-run short of his half-century - including 5-fours, Tilakeratne Dilshan scored 33 off 49-balls including 3-fours.

Nuwan Kulasekara hit 32 off 30-balls including one-six & a four, Thisara Perera hammered a unbeaten 22 off 9-ballls included 3-fours & a six and Thilan Samaraweera 21.

India best bowler by Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan picked up 2-wickets from their 10-overs and Harbhajan Singh took one wicket.

India chased 277-4 in 48.2 overs with top scorer by Gautam Gambhir 97 off 122-balls - who fell 3-run short of his World Cup final hundred - including nine boundaries, MS Dhoni 91 not out.

Virat Kohli struck 35 off 49-balls including 4-fours, Yuvraj Singh 21 not out and Sachin Tendulkar 18.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Lasith Malinga took 2-wickets and one for Tilakeratne Dilshan - Thisara Perera.

MS Dhoni named Player of the match for his match-winning magnificent unbeaten 91-runs knocked off facing 79-balls including 8-fours and 2-sixes with strike rate of 115.19.

Yuvraj Singh earned player of the tournament for his all-round performance to contributed 362-runs including 4-fifties & a century with average of 90.50 and took 15-wickets.
