Kane Williamson held his nerve, ran the last man out with a direct hit as New Zealand pulled off a thrilling 6-run victory over Australia, despite a Marcus Stoinis' record-breaking 146* and take a 1-0 lead in a high-voltage game of the first ODI.

  • New Zealand's 6-run win was their fourth smallest victory by terms of runs against Australia in One-day international and It is their narrowest win against Australia at their home venue in ODIs, previous smallest win by 30-runs at same venue in 1998.
  • Marcus Stoinis' 146* was the fifth highest score by an Australian batsman against New Zealand in One-day international and the highest by Australian at Eden Park, Auckland in ODIs, surpassing the previous record of unbeaten 116 held by Damien Martyn against same opponent in 2000.
  • Marcus Stoinis' unbeaten 146 was the highest score by an Australian No.7 batsman in One-day internationals, surpassing the previous record of 116 held by James Faulkner against India at Bengaluru in 2013 and the second highest score by a No.7 batsman in ODIs after Luke Ronchi's 170*.
  • 11 : Marcus Stoinis hit the second most sixes in an innings for Australia in One-day internationals after Shane Watson' (15), the most sixes hit by an Australian batsman against New Zealand in an innings and the joint seventh in the list of most sixes in an innings in ODIs, jointly with Sanath Jayasuriya, Shahid Afridi, Denesh Ramdin, Martin Guptill, AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock.

New Zealand scored 286-9 in 50 overs with top scorer by Neil Broom struck 73-runs off 75-balls including 4-fours and 3-sixes.

Martin Guptill cracked a 61 off 73-balls including 8-fours, James Neesham 48 off 45-balls - who fell two-run short of his half-century - included 6-fours, Kane Williamson 24, Ross Taylor 16 and Trent Boult 16 not out.

Australia best bowler by Marcus Stoinis 3-49, Pat Cummins takes 2-wickets, Travis Head, James Faulkner, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc each took one-wickets.

Australia scored 280 for all-out in 47 overs with top scorer by Marcus Stoinis 146* - who blasted his maiden ODI hundred.

Pat Cummins hammered a 38 off 28-balls including 5-fours & a six with strike rate of 128.57, James Faulkner scored 25, Glenn Maxwell 20 and Shaun Marsh 16.

New Zealand best bowler by Mitchell Santner picked up 3-wickets, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult both took 2-wickets and one for Colin Munro - Tim Southee.

Marcus Stoinis named Player of the match for his magnificent all-round performance to smashed a career-best unbeaten 146-runs knocked off facing 117-balls including 11-sixes and 9-fours with strike rate of 124.79 after picked up 3-wickets for 49-runs in 10-overs.
