Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal's combined 5-wickets before Virat Kohli's masterclass century and Ajinkya Rahane's half-century helped to India's record six-wicket victory over South Africa, despite a classy century from Faf du Plessis and take a 1-0 lead in the first ODI.

  • India chased 270 was their third highest successful run-chase against South Africa in One-day international and it is their highest chase against South Africa in South African soil in ODIs, previous highest chase was 221 at Cape Town in 2011.
  • 189 : Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane set up the record third-wicket partnership for India against South Africa in One-day international, previously held by the 158-run stand between Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid at Belfast in 2007 and India's tenth highest third-wicket stand in ODIs.
  • India's 270 was their second highest score against South Africa in South African soil in One-day internationals.
  • 56 : Faf du Plessis and Andile Phehlukwayo set up the fifth highest seventh-wicket partnership for South Africa against India in One-day internationals.
  • Virat Kohli became the first batsman to score 20 centuries in a run-chasing in One-day international cricket history.

South Africa scored 269-8 in 50 overs with top scorer by Faf du Plessis 120 off 112-balls - which was his 9th ODI hundred and his second century against India in ODIs - including 11-fours & 2-sixes with strike rate of 107.14.

Chris Morris scored 37 off 43-balls including 4-fours & a six, Quinton de Kock hit 34 off 49-balls included 4-fours, Andile Phehlukwayo 27 not out and Hashim Amla 16.

India best bowler by Kuldeep Yadav picked up 3-wickets for 34-runs in 10-overs, Yuzvendra Chahal took 2-wickets and one for Jasprit Bumrah - Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

India chased 270-4 in 45.3 overs with top scorer by Virat Kohli 112 - which was his 33rd ODI hundred, his second century against South Africa in ODIs and his 20th ODI century in a run-chasing.

Ajinkya Rahane struck 79 off 86-balls including 5-fours & 2-sixes, Shikhar Dhawan hammered a 35 off 29-balls included 6-fours with strike rate of 120.69 and Rohit Sharma 20.

South Africa best bowler by Andile Phehlukwayo took 2-wickets and one for Morne Morkel.

Virat Kohli named Player of the match for his match-winning masterclass 112-runs knocked off facing 119-balls and including ten boundaries.
