Martin Guptill's 76-ball 90, Henry Nicholls half-century and Brendon McCullum's assault before Three-wicket hauls from Trent Boult and Matt Henry helped to New Zealand massive 159-run victory over Australia and take a 1-0 in a one-sided first ODI.

  • New Zealand's 159-run win was their joint tenth largest victory by terms of runs in One-day international and it is their second biggest victory against Australia in ODIs.
  • New Zealand's 307 was their sixth highest score against Australia in One-day internationals.
  • 100 : Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholls set up the joint fourth highest third-wicket partnership for New Zealand against Australia in One-day internationals, jointly 100-run stand held by between Chris Nevin and Stephen Fleming at same venue in 2000.
  • It is the second time Martin Guptill dismissals on nervous nineties in One-day internationals and the joint fifth most nineties dismissals by an New Zealand batsman in ODIs.
  • Australia lost their top six batsmen wickets for just 41-runs - which was their sixth worst first six-wicket collapse in One-day international and it is the their worst first 6-wicket collapse against New Zealand in ODIs. Their previous worst such collapse was six for 47-runs against New Zealand at Adelaide in 1986.
  • Australia's 148 was their joint third lowest score in the completed innings against New Zealand in One-day internationals.

New Zealand scored massive total of 307-8 in 50 overs with top scorer by Martin Guptill 90 - who fell ten-run short of his century.

Henry Nicholls struck 61 off 67-balls including 6-fours & a six, Brendon McCullum hammered a 44 off 29-balls included 5-fours & 3-sixes with strike rate of 151.72.

Mitchell Santner scored a unbeaten 35 off 39-balls including 2-sixes & a four, Grant Elliott 21 and Luke Ronchi 16.

Australia best bowler by Mitchell Marsh, James Faulkner, Josh Hazlewood each took 2-wickets and one for Josh Hastings.

Australia scored 148 for all-out in 24.2 overs with top scorer by Matthew Wade struck 37 off 38-balls including 3-fours & 2-sixes.

James Faulkner hit 36 off 33-balls including 6-fours, Kane Richardson 19 and Steve Smith 18.

New Zealand best bowler by Trent Boult takes 3-wickets for 38-runs in 7-overs, Matt Henry picked up 3-wickets, Mitchell Santner - who took 2-wickets from his only two deliveries, Corey Anderson and Adam Milne both took one-wickets.

Martin Guptill named Player of the match for his quick-fire 90-runs knocked off facing 76-balls including 8-fours and 5-sixes with strike rate of 118.42.
