Jos Buttler's blasting century, Half-centuries from Alex Hales, Joe Root and Ben Stokes' sets up to England cruising to via DLS method 39-run victory over South Africa, despite a Quinton de Kock's quick-fire 138* and take a 1-0 lead in a rain-hit game of the first ODI.

  • England's 39-run win was their second largest victory by terms of runs against South Africa in One-day internationals.
  • England's 399 was their second highest score in One-day international and it is their highest total against South Africa in ODIs, previous highest was 323 at Centurion in 2009 and also it is their highest ODI total in South African soil.
  • This is the fifth instance of England's four batsmen were scores of fifty or more runs in their innings in One-day international and it is their first instance against South Africa in ODIs.
  • Quinton de Kock's 138* was his highest score for South Africa in One-day international and the third highest-score by an South African batsman against England in ODIs.
  • 97 : Joe Root and Jos Buttler set up the sixth highest third-wicket partnership for England against South Africa in One-day internationals.
  • 110 : Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis set up the record second-wicket partnership for South Africa against England in One-day internationals, previously held by the 94-run stand between Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers at Cape Town in 2009.
  • Jos Buttler became the fifth England batsman to score a hundred against South Africa in One-day internationals.
  • Quinton de Kock hammered a 67-ball sixth fastest century for South Africa in One-day international and the fastest hundred by an South African batsman against England in ODIs, surpassing the previous record of 75-ball hundred held by AB de Villiers at Cape Town in 2009.
  • Jos Buttler hammered a 73-ball his fourth fastest century for England in One-day international and the second fastest hundred by an England batsman against South Africa in ODIs after Kevin Pietersen's 69-ball hundred at East London in 2005.

England scored record total of 399-9 in 50 overs with top scorer by Jos Buttler hammered a 105 off 76-balls  - which was his 4th ODI hundred & his first century against South Africa in ODIs - including 11-fours & 5-sixes with strike rate of 138.16.

Ben Stokes blasted a 57 off 38-balls Including 4-fours & 3-sixes with strike rate of 150, Alex Hales hit 57 off 47-balls included 6-fours & a six with strike-rate of 121.28.

Joe Root scored 52 off 58-balls including 4-fours & a six, Jason Roy 48 off 30-balls - who fell two-run short of his half-century - included 8-fours & a six with strike rate of 160, Eoin Morgan 23 and Moeen Ali 19.

South Africa best bowler by Chris Morris picked up 3-wickets, Imran Tahir, Marchant de Lange both took 2-wickets and one for Farhaan Behardien - Morne Morkel.

South Africa scored 250-5 in 33.3 overs - due to rain DLS par score 289 after 33.3 overs South Africa were 39 runs behind of the par score when the rain-thrash the match.

South Africa top scorer by Quinton de Kock 138 not out - which was his 9th ODI hundred and his first century against England in ODIs.

Faf du Plessis hammered a 55 off 44-balls Including 7-fours & a six with strike rate of 125, Rilee Rossouw 19.

England best bowler by Moeen Ali picked up 3-wickets and one for David Willey and Reece Topley.

Quinton de Kock named player of the match for his quick-fire unbeaten 138-runs knocked off facing 96-balls including 12-fours and 6-sixes with strike rate of 143.75.
