Magnificent Mark Waugh's record-breaking century and Steve Waugh's supporting 82 before bowlers attack helped to Australia registered their historic first ODI win against Kenya by thumping 97-runs in a one-sided game of the 12th match of a Wills World Cup.

  • Australia's 97-run win was their third largest victory by terms of runs in World Cups.
  • Mark Waugh's 130 was his joint highest score in One-day international and the highest score by an Australian batsman in World Cup, surpassing the previous record of unbeaten 126 held by Geoff Marsh against New Zealand at Chandigarh in the 1987 World Cup. 
  • 207 : Mark Waugh and Steve Waugh set up the record any-wicket partnership in World Cup history, surpassing the previous record held by the unbeaten 195-run stand between West Indies' Gordon Greenidge and Larry Gomes against Zimbabwe at Worcester in the 1983 World Cup, Australia's third highest any-wicket stand in ODIs and the sixth highest any-wicket stand in ODIs.
  • 6 : Mark Waugh hit the third most centuries for Australia in One-day internationals after Geoff Marsh (9) and Dean Jones (7).
  • Mark Waugh became the fifth Australian batsman to score a hundred in World Cups.

Australia scored mammoth total of 304-7 in 50 overs with top scorer by Mark Waugh 130 - which was his 6th ODI hundred, his first century against Kenya and his 1st ODI hundred in World Cups.

Steve Waugh struck 82 off 88-balls including 5-fours & a six, Stuart Law cracked a 35 off 30-balls included 3-fours and Ian Healy 17.

Kenya best bowler by Rajab Ali picked up 3-wickets, Martin Suji took 2-wickets and one for Aasif Karim.

Kenya scored 207-7 in 50 overs with top scorer by Kennedy Otieno struck 85 off consuming 137-deliveries including 8-fours & a six.

Maurice Odumbe scored 50 off 53-balls including 7-fours and Tito Odumbe scored 14.

Australia best bowler by Paul Reiffel, Michael Bevan both takes 2-wickets, Craig McDermott, Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath each took one-wickets.

Mark Waugh named Player of the match for his magnificent record-breaking 130-runs knocked off facing 128-balls including 14-fours and a six with strike rate of 101.56.
