Rapid half-centuries from Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs before Andrew Hall and Robin Peterson's combined 5-wickets helped to South Africa registered their historic first-ever T20I win by thrilling 2-run against Australia, despite a late assault from Brad Hogg - Brett Lee in a high-scoring game of the one-off T20I.

  • South Africa's 2-run was the smallest victory by terms of runs in T20 internationals, previous narrowest win was 44-runs by Australia against New Zealand in the first-ever T20I.
  • South Africa's 201 was their highest score in T20 international, previous highest was 133 against New Zealand at same venue in the last year and the third highest total in T20Is.
  • Australia's 199 was their third highest score in T20 international and It is their second highest total against South Africa in T20Is.
  • 400 : This was the highest aggregates match in T20 international cricket history.
  • Graeme Smith's unbeaten 89 was the highest score for South Africa in T20 international cricket history and the third highest-score in T20Is.
  • 111 : Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs set up the record second-wicket partnership in T20 international cricket history, surpassing the previous record held by the 46-run stand between Ricky Ponting and Damien Martyn against South Africa at Brisbane in this year and also the record any-wicket stand in T20Is, surpassing the previous record held by the 84-run stand between Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis against New Zealand at sane venue in the last year.
  • 57 : Brad Hogg and Brett Lee set up the record seventh-wicket partnership in T20 international cricket history, surpassing the previous record held by the Paul Collingwood and Vikram Solanki against Australia at Southampton in the last year.

South Africa scored massive total of 201-4 in 20 overs with top scorer by Graeme Smith 89 not out, Herschelle Gibbs hammered a 56 off 34-balls including 4-sixes and 4-fours with strike rate of 164.70.

Debutant Loots Bosman struck 23 off 18-balls on his debut T20I match - including 3-fours & a six.

Australia best bowler by Mick Lewis took 2-wickets, Nathan Bracken takes 1-wicket and Debutant Shane Watson - who took one-wicket on his debut T20I match.

Australia scored 199-7 in 20 overs with top scorer by Brett Lee hammered a unbeaten 43 off 21-balls including 4-fours & 2-sixes with strike rate of 204.76.

Brad Hogg blasted a 41 off 25-balls including 3-sixes & 2-fours with strike rate of 164, Simon Katich smashed a 22-ball 39-runs including six-fours and a six with strike rate of 177.27, 

Michael Clarke cracked a 37 off 24-balls including 3-sixes with strike rate of 154.17 and Damien Martyn 17.

South Africa best bowler by Andrew Hall picked up 3-wickets for 22-runs in 4-overs, Debutant Robin Peterson - who took 2-wickets on his debut T20I match, Debutants Roger Telemachus and Johan van der wath both took one-wickets on their debut T20I match.

Graeme Smith named Player of the match for his brilliant batting performance to smashed a unbeaten quick-fire 89-runs knocked off facing 58-balls including 11-fours and a six with strike rate of 153.44.
