All-round performance from Nathan McCullum helped to New Zealand tense two-wicket victory over Sri Lanka, despite a Mahela Jayawardene's masterclass 81 in a low-scoring game of the opening match of a ICC World Twenty20.
Sri Lanka scored 135-6 in 20 overs with top scorer by Mahela Jayawardene blasted a 81 off 51-balls including 8-fours & 2-sixes with strike rate of 158.82, debutant Dinesh Chandimal who scored 29 off 23-balls on his debut T20I match and Chamara Kapugedera 11.
New Zealand best bowler by Shane Bond takes 2-wickets, Scott Styris, Nathan McCullum, Tim Southee and Jacob Oram each took one-wickets.
New Zealand chased 139-8 in 19.5 overs with top scorer by Jesse Ryder hammered a quick-fire 27-ball 42-runs including 3-fours & 2-sixes with strike rate of 155.55, Martin Guptill 19, Scott Styris, Daniel Vettori both scored 17-runs, Nathan McCullum 16 not out and Jacob Oram 15.
Sri Lanka best bowler by Muttiah Muralitharan takes two-wickets, Angelo Mathews, Sanath Jayasuriya, Ajantha Mendis each took one-wickets and debutant Chanaka Welegedera - who took 1-wicket on his debut T20I match.
Nathan McCullum named Player of the match for his match-winning all-round performance to scored a unbeaten rapid 6-ball 16-runs including one-six & a four and his excellent bowling to took one-wicket for 17-runs in 3-overs.
