Lasith Malinga's maiden five-wicket haul gives Sri Lanka comprehensive 19-run victory over England, despite a fighting half-century from Sandeep Patel and enter into the semi-final in the 22nd match of a World Twenty20.

  • Sri Lanka became only the second team after Pakistan to reach the semi-final stage of the World Twenty20 in three tournaments. They were runners-up to Pakistan in 2009 and lost in the semi-final to England in 2010.
  • Sri Lanka's win was their third in four matches against England. Their only loss came in the 2010 World Twenty20 game. It is also Sri Lanka's sixth win in home Twenty20 internationals and their fifth batting first (home games).
  • Lasith Malinga became the second Sri Lankan bowler to claimed a five-wicket haul in T20 international after Ajantha Mendis and overall the eighth bowler in T20Is.

  • 51 : Samit Patel and Graeme Swann set up the highest for eighth-wicket partnership for England in T20 international, previously held by the unbeaten 33-run stand between Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad against South Africa at Chester-le-Street in the last month, it is the fifth-highest eighth-wicket stand in T20Is and the second-highest eight-wicket partnership in World Twenty20.
  • Sri Lanka's 169 was their highest score against New Zealand in T20 internationals, previous highest total was 163 at Southampton in 2006.
  • England's 150 was their second highest score against Sri Lanka in T20 internationals.

Sri Lanka scored 169-6 in 20 overs with top scorer by Mahela Jayawardene struck 42 off 38-balls including 5-fours & a six, Angelo Mathews cracked a 28 off 19-balls included 3-fours & a six.

Thisara Perera blasted a unbeaten 26 off 16-balls including 2-sixes with strike rate of 162.50, Jeevan Mendis hit 18 off 13-balls included 2-fours & a six with strike-rate of 138.46 and Tillakaratne Dilshan 16.

England best bowler by Stuart Broad picked up 3-wickets, Graeme Swann took two-wickets and one for Steven Finn.

England scored 150-9 in 20 overs with top scorer by Samit Patel struck 67 off 48-balls including 8-fours & 2-sixes and Graeme Swann blasted a unbeaten 34 off 20-balls included 4-fours a six with strike rate of 170.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Lasith Malinga 5-31, Akila Dananjaya took 2-wickets, Jeevan Mendis take one-wicket for 5-runs in 1-over and Nuwan Kulasekara took one-wicket.

Lasith Malinga named Player of the match for his pace bowling attack to claimed a career-best 5-wicket haul for 31-runs in 4-overs.
