Shaheen Shah Afridi holds nerve as Pakistan pulled off a thrilling 2-run victory over New Zealand, despite a Colin Munro's fifty - Ross Taylor's 26-ball 42* and take a 1-0 lead in a high-voltage game of the first T20I.

Match Stats :
  • Pakistan's 2-run win was their joint smallest victory by terms of runs in T20 internationals, it is their 3rd time win by 2-runs and Pakistan's narrowest win against New Zealand in T20Is. Their previous narrowest victory by 7-runs at Dubai in 2009.
  • New Zealand's 146 was their joint ninth highest score against Pakistan in T20 internationals.
  • Pakistan's 148 was their tenth highest score against New Zealand in T20 internationals.
  • 67 : Asif Ali and Mohammad Hafeez set up the second highest third-wicket partnership for Pakistan against New Zealand in T20 internationals.
  • 50 : Colin Munro and Glenn Phillips set up the joint fifth highest first-wicket partnership for New Zealand against Pakistan in T20 internationals, jointly 50-run stand held by between Lou Vincent and Brendon McCullum at Cape Town in the inaugural 2007 World Twenty20.


Pakistan scored 148-6 in 20 overs with top scorer by Mohammad Hafeez 45, Sarfraz Ahmed scored 34 off 26-balls including 3-fours & a six and Asif Ali 24.

New Zealand best bowler by Adam Milne takes 2-wickets, Colin de Grandhomme, Ish Sodhi both took one-wickets and debutant Ajaz Patel - who took one-wicket on his debut T20I match.

New Zealand scored 146-6 in 20 overs with top scorer by Colin Munro struck 58 off 42-balls including 6-fours & a six and Ross Taylor cracked a unbeaten 42 off 26-balls including 3-fours with strike rate of 161.53.

Pakistan best bowler by Hasan Ali picked up 3-wickets and one for Imad Wasim - Shadab Khan.

Mohammad Hafeez named Player of the match for his brilliant 45 off 36-balls including 5-fours & 2-sixes.
