Wicket-keeper MS Dhoni's record-breaking 183* powers to India emphatic six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka, despite a Kumar Sangakkara's unbeaten 138 and take a 3-0 lead in a high-scoring game of the third ODI.

  • MS Dhoni plundered 183* - the joint sixth highest score in One-day internationals, jointly with Sourav Ganguly's 183 against same opponent at Taunton in the 1999 World Cup.
  • MS Dhoni's 183* was the joint second-highest score by an Indian batsman in One-day internationals jointly with Sourav Ganguly.
  • MS Dhoni's 183* was the highest score by a wicket-keeper in One-day internationals, surpassing the previous record of 172 by Adam Gilchrist against Zimbabwe at Hobart in 2004.
  • MS Dhoni's 183* was the joint highest score by an Indian batsman against Sri Lanka in One-day internationals jointly with Sourav Ganguly.
  • This is the first time both wicketkeepers (Kumar Sangakkara 138* and MS Dhoni 183*) had scored centuries in the same match in One-day international cricket history.
  • 10 : MS Dhoni hit the most sixes in an innings by an Indian batsman in One-day international cricket history, surpassing the previous record of 7 jointly held by Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly and the third in the list of most sixes in an innings in ODIs.
  • India chased 299 was their fifth highest successful run-chase in One-day international and their highest chase against Sri Lanka in ODIs, their previous best chase was 278 at Delhi in 1982.
  • India's 303 was their fifth highest score against Sri Lanka in One-day internationals.

Sri Lanka scored 298-4 in 50 overs with top scorer by Kumar Sangakkara cracked a unbeaten 138 off 147-balls - which was his 4th ODI hundred - including 13-fours & 2-sixes.

Mahela Jayawardene scored 71 off 70-balls including 10-fours, Farveez Maharoof blasted a unbeaten 33 off 16-balls included 4-fours & a six with strike rate of 206.25, Marvan Atapattu 17 and Sanath Jayasuriya 15.

India best bowler by Ajit Agarkar took 2-wickets and one for Virender Sehwag - Jai Prakash Yadav.

India chased 303-4 in 46.1 overs with top scorer by MS Dhoni 183 not out - which was his 2nd ODI hundred.

Virender Sehwag struck 39 off 37-balls including 3-fours, Rahul Dravid 28, Venugopal Rao 19 not out and Yuvraj Singh 18.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Muttiah Muralitharan took 2-wickets and one for Tillakaratne Dilshan - Chaminda Vaas.

MS Dhoni named Player of the match for his match-winning power-hitting batting performance to scored a career-best unbeaten 183-runs knocked off facing 145-balls including 15-fours and 10-sixes with strike rate of 126.20.
