Half-centuries from Gary Kirsten and Hansie Cronje before Bowlers delivered to South Africa comprehensive 47-run victory over India in the opening match of a Titan Cup triangular tournament.

  • South Africa's 47-run win was their second largest victory by terms of runs against India in One-day internationals.
  • South Africa's 261 was their fourth highest score against India in One-day international and It is their second highest total in Indian soil in ODIs.
  • India's 214 was their seventh highest score against South Africa in One-day internationals.
  • 76 : Hansie Cronje and Brian McMillan set up the record seventh-wicket partnership for South Africa in One-day international, previously held by the 46-run stand between David Richardson and Eric Simons against New Zealand at Cape Town in 1994.
  • 226 : Mohammad Azharuddin became the most appearances player for India in One-day internationals cricket history, surpassing the previous record of 225 by Kapil Dev.

* Sourav Ganguly was involved in a mix-up run-out with Rahul Dravid while attempting a sharp single off Fanie de Villiers and crashing into him, before Brian McMillan ran him out. Despite being declared out, South Africa captain Hansie Cronje recalled Sourav Ganguly.

South Africa scored 261-7 in 50 overs with top scorer by Gary Kirsten 82, Hansie Cronje cracked a unbeaten 63 off 75-balls including 6-fours.

Andrew Hudson scored 34 off 51-balls including 4-fours & a six, Brian McMillan cracked a 32 off 34-balls included 4-fours and Daryll Cullinan 16.

India best bowler by Anil Kumble picked up 3-wickets, Ajay Jadeja, Venkatesh Prasad and Sunil Joshi each took one-wickets.

India scored 214 for all-out in 46.3 overs with top scorer by Rahul Dravid struck 62 off 87-balls including 6-fours.

Mohammad Azharuddin scored 32 off 55-balls including 3-fours, Saurav Ganguly hit 31 off 42-balls included 3-fours & a six, Javagal Srinath 17 not out and Ajay Jadeja 15.

South Africa best bowler by Allan Donald picked up 3-wickets, Fanie de Villiers the and Derek Crookes both took 2-wickets.

Gary Kirsten named Player of the match for his brilliant batting performance to scored a 84-runs knocked off facing 81-balls including 9-fours and a six with strike rate of 103.70.
