* Joe Root became the fourth England batsman to score a four double-centuries in Test matches after Wally Hammond (7), Alastair Cook (5) and Leonard Hutton (4).

* Joe Root's 228 was his second best score for England in Test matches and the highest score by an England batsman against Sri Lanka in Tests, surpassing the previous record of 203 held by Jonathan Trott at Cardiff in 2011.

* Joe Root's 228 was the highest score by an England batsman in Sri Lanka in Test matches, surpassing the previous record of 151 held by Kevin Pietersen at Colombo (PSS) in 2012.

* 30y 17 days : Joe Root became the third youngest player to reach 8000 runs in Test matches after Alastair Cook (29y 3 days) and Sachin Tendulkar (29y 27 days).

Sri Lanka 1st Innings scored 135 for all-out in 46.1 overs with top scorer by Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Dasun Shanaka 23, Kusal Perera 20 and Wanindu Hasaranga 19.

1st Innings England best bowler by Dom Bess claimed a 5-wicker haul for 30-runs in 10.1-overs including three maidens, Stuart Broad picked up 3-wickets for 20-runs in 9-overs included three maidens and one for Jack Leach.

England 1st Innings scored 421 for all-out in 117.1 overs with top scorer by Joe Root 228 off 321-balls - which was his 4th Test double-century and his second double-hundred against Sri Lanka in Tests.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Dilruwan Perera claimed a 4-wickets for 109-runs in 36.1-overs, Lasith Embuldeniya picked up 3-wickets and Asitha Fernando took 2-wickets.

Sri Lanka 2nd Innings scored 359 for all-out in 136.5 overs with top scorer by Lahiru Thirimanne 111 off 251-balls - which was his 2nd Test hundred and his first century against England in Tests.

2nd Innings England best bowler by Jack Leach claimed a 5-wicket haul for 122-runs in 41.5-overs, Dom Bess picked up 3-wickets and Sam Curran took 2-wickets.

England chased 76-3 in 24.2 overs with top scorer by Jonny Bairstow 35 not out, Dan Lawrence 21 not out.

2nd Innings Sri Lanka best bowler by Lasith Embuldeniya took 2-wickets for 29runs in 12-overs including three maidens.

Joe Root named Player of the match for his record-breaking  magnificent 228-runs knocked off facing 321-balls including 18-fours and a six.
