A superb bowling display from Chris Woakes's four-for and David Willey's three-for before An unbeaten half-century from Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow's assault helped to England comfortable five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka and take a 1-0 lead in a low-scoring game of the first ODI.

* England's 91-balls spare was their fifth largest victory by terms of balls remaining against Sri Lanka in One-day internationals.

* Chris Woakes' economy rate of 1.80 was the best economical figures by an England bowler against Sri Lanka in One-day internationals (minimum of 10 or more overs), surpassing the previous record of 2.30 jointly held by Alan Mulally at Melbourne in 1999 and Ryan Sidebotton at Dambulla in 2007. 

* Sri Lanka lost their last seven wickets for just 40-runs - which was their third worst seven-wicket collapse against England in One-day internationals. They went from 145 for 3 to 185 for all out.

Sri Lanka scored 185 for all-out in 42.3 overs with top scorer by Kusal Perera struck 73 off 81-balls including 7-fours.

Wanindu Hasaranga cracked a 54 off 65-balls including 6-fours & a six, Chamika Karunaratne 19 not out.

England best bowler by Chris Woakes 4-18, David Willey picked up 3-wickets and one for Moeen Ali.

England chased 189-5 in 34.5 overs with top scorer by Joe Root cracked a unbeaten 79 off 87-balls including 4-fours.

Jonny Bairstow blasted a 43 off 21-balls including 6-fours & a six with strike rate of 204.76 and Moeen Ali 28.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Dushmantha Chameera picked up 3-wickets for 50-runs in 8-overs, Chamika Karunaratne and Binura Fernando both took one-wickets.

Chris Woakes named Player of the match for his superb economical bowling performance to claimed a 4-wickets for 18-runs in 10-overs including five maidens with economy rate of 1.80.
