Australia's innings and 182-run win was their fifth largest victory by terms of innings & runs against South Africa in Test matches. Australia registered a first home series win against South Africa since the 2005-06. Cameron Green became the first Australian player to take a Boxing Day five-wicket haul in Test matches since Shane Warne, on a day the legend was honoured at the MCG. David Warner became second Australian batsman to score a 100 in their 100th match in Test cricket after Ricky Ponting, where he struck both innings centuries on his 100th Test match and overall the tenth player in Tests. David Warner became the only the second batsman to score a double-hundred in their 100th match in Test cricket history after Joe Root's 218 against India at Chennai in the last year. Alex Carey became the first wicket-keeper to score a century at MCG in Tests since Rod Marsh in 1977. Australia's 575 was their fourth highest score against South Africa in Test matches and It is their joint fifth highest total at MCG in Tests.

1st Innings South Africa best bowler by Anrich Nortje picked up 3-wickets, Kagiso Rabada took 2-wickets and one for Marco Jansen - Lungi Ngidi.

South Africa 2nd Innings scored 204 for all-out in 68.5 overs with top scorer by Temba Bavuma struck 65 off 144-balls including 6-fours.

Kyle Verreynne cracked a 33 off 40-balls including 5-fours, Theunis de Bruyn scored 28 off 68-balls included two boundaries, Sarel Erwee 21 and Lungi Ngidi 19.
