Captain Zaheer Abbas' blazing 73 sets up to Pakistan pulled off a last-ball thrilling one-wicket victory over New Zealand and clinched the four-match series with 3-1 in a last-ball thriller of the fourth ODI.


* This is the first time Pakistan winning on the last ball of the match in One-day international and became the fourth team to winning on the last-ball of the match.



New Zealand scored 213-8 in the alloted 35 overs with top scorer by Ian Smith struck 41 off 40-balls including 4-fours.

Jeremy Coney cracked a 34 off 37-balls including 3-fours, Martin Crowe hit 28 off 26-balls included 3-fours and Paul McEwan 22.

Pakistan best bowler by Saadat Ali takes 2-wickets, Mohsin Khan, Tauseef Ahmed and Zaheer Abbas each took one-wickets.

Pakistan chased 214-9 in 35 overs with top scorer by Zaheer Abbas blasted a 73 off 62-balls including 9-fours with strike rate of 117.74.

Shoaib Mohammad hit 35 off 44-balls including 5-fours, Javed Miandad scored 32 off 39-balls included a boundary, Saleem Malik hit 28 off 22-balls including 2-fours.

PAKISTAN clinched the one-day international series against New Zealand, winning by one wicket off the last ball in Multan today.

In a thrilling finish to a match marred by crowd trouble, Pakistan, chasing 214 to win in 35 overs, came to the last over with their last wicket pair, Tauseef Ahmed and Mohsin Kamal, needing eight to win.

With one ball left the scores were level. Mohsin, surrounded by fielders, managed to dab the ball away and scramble the winning run amid great excitement.

The result in the fourth and final game gave Pakistan a 3-1 victory in the series.


Police use tear gas

The disturbances, which began when crowds broke into the ground as the captains tossed, caused the match to be reduced from 40 overs. Police had to use tear gas to restore order and the game started 23 minutes late.

New Zealand owed their highest total of the series to solid knocks by the captain, Jeremy Coney (34). wicketkeeper Ian Smith (41) and 57 extras a legacy of some poor Pakistani fielding and bowling.

Set an asking rate of 6-11 an over. Pakistan were kept in the game by a second-wicket stand of 72 between Shoaib Mohammad and the captain. Zaheer Abbas. who also added 68 for the third wicket with Javed Miandad.

Zaheer (73) was the match's top scorer with nine fours in 104 minutes. He was vote man of the match ahead of John Bracewell who took three marvellous catches in the outfield and captured the wicket of the Pakistan captain.
