* Australia now have only two matches remaining chances at Wellington and Auckland next week-to salvage a drawn the four-match ODI series.

* Allan Border, the Australian captain, who had threatened to quit if his side failed or performed poorly, was not quickly available for comment, but he will not have been amused by the three run-outs suffered by his batsmen.



New Zealand scored 258-7 in 49 overs with top scorer by Bruce Edgar struck 74 off 105-balls including 7-fours.

Jeremy Coney cracked a 64 off 55-balls and Ken Rutherford scored 64 off 89-balls included 5-fours & a six.

Australia best bowler by Bruce Reid, Simon Davis both took 2-wickets and one for Steve Smith - Craig McDermott.

Australia scored 205 for all-out in 45.4 overs with top scorer by David Boon struck 47 off 58-balls including 9-fours.

Craig McDermott blasted a 37 off 29-balls including 3-fours & 2-sixes with strike rate of 127.58, Greg Ritchie hit 31 off 55-balls including 2-fours and Allan Border scored 27 off 45-balls with 3-fours.

New Zealand best bowler by Richard Hadlee, Ewen Chatfield both takes 2-wickets, Martin Crowe, John Bracewell and Stun Gillespie each took one-wickets.

Jeremy Coney named Player of the match for his brilliant batting performance to scored a 64 off 55-balls including 8-four.
