The West Indies crushed England in one-day cricket international, winning by eight wickets and taking the four-match series 3-1.

Richie Richardson (31), Desmond Haynes (77 not out) and captain Viv Richards (50 not out) thrilled the 20,000 crowd with a fine array of strokes all over the ground to win in 38.2 overs.

England made a breakthrough with the second ball of the first over when Foster, on a shortened run up, bowled Gordon Greenidge for a duck when the score was on zero. But their hopes were dashed as the in-form West Indies batsmen ran up the century in 28 overs as against the 35 it took England.

The high-scoring Richardson came in and with opener Haynes set the oval ablaze with a 75-run second wicket partner- ship in even time. Richardson was caught by Gooch off Emburey attempting a big hit over mid-on for 31.

Richards was at first pinned down by spin bowlers Emburey and Edmonds during five overs, but he hit a towering six off Edmonds over long-off to command respect from the close fielders.

The West Indies are 3-0 ahead in the five-match test series and victory in yesterday's limited overs match removed whatever chances England had of salvaging some pride from the tour.

Captain Richards, who won the match with a final boundary to reach an unbeaten half century, was the only batsman to hit a six in the match. He belted three off the spin bowlers in addition to hitting four fours. Haynes, in his unbeaten 77, hit 11 fours and batted 160 minutes, facing 106 balls.

Joel Garner, who took three wickets for 22, was named man of the match.
