A built around some tight bowling before A superb 67 by opener Gordon Greenidge and Roger Harper's unbeaten 34 helped to West Indies easy four-wicket victory over Pakistan and take a 1-0 lead in a low-scoring game of the first ODI.


* Pakistan Set a modest target of 165 to win in 49 overs, the touring team West Indies never looked like failing after the steady start given from Gordon Greenidge. They cruise home with 3.3 overs and four wickets to remaining.

* The only hiccup came when paceman Salim Jaffa, making his international debut, claimed the illustrious wicket of Viv Richards for seven, leaving the West Indies 118 for five.

* The West Indies captain Viv Richards found a top edge and was superbly caught one-handed by substitute wicketkeeper Javed Miandad, diving to his right - Javed Miandad stand in behind wicket as wicket-keeper from the 3rd over of the West Indies innings when Anil Dalpat left the field with ill.

* Pakistan started shakily after winning the toss and lost three wickets for 27. Rameez Raja (31) and Salim Malik (30) came together for a partnership of 57, but Anthony Gray, the most successful bowler with three for 20, dissmissed them both.

* The low-order was boosted by Abdul Qadir, who lifted Roger Harper over the sightscreen twice and hit four-fours in a sparkling 34.

* Pakistan finished on 164 for seven, with captain Imran Khan unbeaten on 23. The West Indies scored 165 for six.

* The match was marked before and after the game by political protests outside the stadium by a few dozen students and opposition supporters.

* Police used tear gas and baton charges and the protesters were quickly dispersed. Play was not affected.




Pakistan scored 164-7 in the allotted 49 overs with top scorer by Abdul Qadir cracked a 34 off 45-balls including 4-fours & 2-sixes.

Ramiz Raja scored 31 off consuming 71-balls including a boundary, Saleem Malik hit 30 off 64-balls included 2-fours, Imran Khan 23 not out and Mudassar Nazar 15.

West Indies best bowler by Tony Gray picked up 3-wickets for 20-runs in 10-overs including a maiden, Malcolm Marshall, Winston Benjamin and Patrick Patterson each took one-wickets.

West Indies chased 165-6 in 45.3 overs with top scorer by Gordon Greenidge struck 67 off 104-balls, Roger Harper hit a unbeaten 34 off 48-balls including 2-fours and Larry Gomes 18.

Pakistan best bowler by Imran Khan, Saleem Jaffar, Wasim Akram, Tauseef Ahmed and Abdul Qadir each took one-wickets.

Gordon Greenidge named Player of the match for his match-winning brilliant 67 off 104-balls including 8-fours.
