Thirties from Ramiz Raja, Javed Miandad, Manzoor Elahi and A fine All-round display from captain Imran Khan helped to Pakistan consolation win against West Indies by a narrow 11-runs, despite a Desmond Haynes - Richie Richardson's fifties and avoid the series whitewash in fifth ODI.


Pakistan scored 202-6 in the alloted 45 overs with top scorer by Ramiz Raja scored 32 off 67-balls without a boundary.

Javed Miandad cracked a 30 off 47-balls including 3-fours, Imran Khan blasted a unbeaten 27 off 21-balls, Saleem Yousuf scored a run-a-ball unbeaten 23-runs including a boundary and Ijaz Ahmed 18.

West Indies best bowler by Richie Richardson, Viv Richards, Winston Benjamin, Patrick Patterson and Roger Harper each took one-wickets.

West Indies scored 191-7 in 45 overs with top scorer by Richie Richardson cracked a 70 off 116-balls including 6-fours & a six, Desmond Haynes hit 59 off 87-balls including 4-fours & a six and Gus t 16.

Pakistan best bowler by Imran Khan, Saleem Jaffar both took 2-wickets for 37-runs in their 9-overs including a maidens, Shoaib Mohammad, Abdul Qadir and Manzoor Elahi each took one-wickets.

Imran Khan named Player of the match for his all-round performance to took 2-wickets for 37-runs in 9-overs including a maiden after scoring a valuable unbeaten 27 off 21-balls including 2-sixes with strike rate of 128.57.

A FINE all-round performance by Imran Khan helped Pakistan to defeat the West Indies by 11 runs in the fifth and final one-day international at Hyderabad. The tourists had already clinched the series by winning the first four matches.

Viv Richards won the toss for the first time in the series and put Pakistan in. But their openers again failed when, after only 13 runs Shoaib Mohammed was caught off Patterson.

Eleven runs later Sajid Ali was caught by Harper off Richards, before Ramiz Raja and Javed Miandad stopped a possible collapse by adding 61 runs for the third wicket.

Then the West Indies struck twice in quick succession. Ramiz and Miandad were both out at the same score.

With Pakistan again in trouble, another useful partnership, this time between Manzoor Elahie and Ejaz Mohammed helped improve Pakistan's position.


Batted well

The fifth wicket added 54 runs, taking Pakistan's score to 139, but Ejaz was run out after making 18. Manzoor and Imran added 11 runs when Manzoor was caught for 31.

With Pakistan at six wickets down for 150 runs, Imran and Salim Yusuf batted well to carry the total to 202 in the allotted 45 overs.

It was Pakistan's highest score in the present series. Needing 203 runs to win, the West Indies made a solid start with Haynes and Greenidge scoring 20 in the first four overs. And it was Imran who came in for severe punishment, conceding 19 runs in the first two overs.

After eight overs Imran replaced himself with Manzoor a move which earned immediate results, Greenidge was caught by Abdul Qadir at 31.

Richardson and Haynes continued to play aggressively against Pakistan's fast bowlers.

But when the Pakistani spinners, Qadir and Tauseef Ahmed, came on the scoring rate fell.
The second wicket partnership between Haynes and Richardson produced 91 runs, Richardson making 70 and haynes 59. But at 122, Shoaib had Haynes caught by Miandad.

With the score unchanged, the West Indies then lost Richards, who was lbw to Qadir without scoring.

Logie and Richardson added 12 before Logie fell to Salim Jafer. With the score at 172, the West Indies lost Richardson, who was caught by Shoaib off Imran.

Three runs later Harper was bowled by Imran without scoring and at this stage the West Indies needed 30 runs to win in four overs with four wickets in hand.

But Imran and Salim bowled extremely well to restrict the tourists to 191 runs for seven.

* Earlier in the day, more than 50 armed police had escorted the motorcade taking both teams the 110 miles from Karachi to Hyderabad. Police said the guard was provided because of frequent kidnappings by bandits in Sind province.
