A multiple record-breaking superb century by captain Rohit Sharma's 84-ball 131 and Virat Kohli's unbeaten half-century steers to India resounding eight-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the ninth match of a Cricket World Cup.

  • India chased 273 was their fourth highest successful run-chase in the ODI World Cup.
  • India's 90-ball spare win was their sixth largest victory by terms of balls remaining in the ODI World Cup.
  • Afghanistan's 272 was their highest score against India in One-day international, previous highest was 252 at Dubai in 2018 and It is their second highest total in the ODI World Cup after their 288 against West Indies at Leeds in 2019.
  • 121 : Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai set up the record fourth-wicket partnership for Afghanistan against India in One-day international and It is the Afghanistan's fourth highest fourth-wicket stand in ODIs and the Afghanistan's highest any-wicket stand against India in ODIs, previously held by the 65-run stand for the first-wicket between Mohammad Shahzad and Javed Ahmadi at Dubai in 2018.
  • Jasprit Bumrah's 4 for 39 was his sixth best bowling figures for India in One-day international and the second best-bowling-figures by an Indian bowler against Afghanistan in ODIs after Ravindra Jadeja's 4 for 30.
  • 19 Innings : Rohit Sharma equalled a joint fastest to reach 1000 ODI runs in terms of innings in ODI World Cup, jointly with 19 innings took by David Warner.
  • Rohit Sharma hammered a 63-ball fastest century by an Indian batsman in the ODI World Cup history, surpassing the previous record of 72-ball hundred held by Kapil Dev against Zimbabwe at Tunbridge Wells in the 1983 World Cup and the sixth fastest hundred in the ODI World Cup.

Afghanistan scored 272-8 in 50 overs with top scorer by Hashmatullah Shahidi struck 80 off 88-balls including 8-fours & a six.

Azmatullah Omarzai  cracked a 62 off 69-balls including 4-sixes & 2-fours, Ibrahim Zadran scored 22 off 28-balls included 4-fours, Rahmanullah Gurbaz hit 21 off 28-balls with 3-fours & a six, Mohammad Nabi 19, Rahmat Shah 16 and Rashid Khan 16.

India best bowler by Jasprit Bumrah claimed a 4-wickets for 39-runs in 10-overs, Hardik Pandya took 2-wickets and one for Shardul Thakur - Kuldeep Yadav.

India chased 273-2 in 35 overs with top scorer by Rohit Sharma hammered a 131 off 84-balls - which was his 31st ODI hundred, his first century against Afghanistan in ODIs and his 7th century in ODI World Cup.

Virat Kohli cracked a unbeaten 55 off 56-balls including 6-fours, Ishan Kishan scored a run-a-ball 47-runs including 5-fours & 2-sixes and Shreyas Iyer scored a unbeaten 25 off 23-balls with one-six & a four.

Afghanistan best bowler by Rashid Khan took 2-wickets for 57-runs in 8-overs.

Rohit Sharma named Player of the match for his match-winning superb 131-runs knocked off facing 84-balls including 16-fours and 5-sixes with strike rate of 155.95.
