Viv Richards led from the front with a captain innings of 41, Phil Simmons and Gus Logie's each 34 before Courtney Walsh's four-wicket haul and Carl Hooper's two key wickets gives West Indies comprehensive 52-run victory over India in "a devil" pitch game of the second ODI match.



* WEST INDIES tamed what their captain Viv Richards called "a devil" in the Gauhati pitch to beat India in the second one-day international, and so take a 2-0 lead in the seven-match ODI series.

* Viv Richards led from the front with a captain innings of 41 on a turning wicket and claimed a crucial wicket of Indian captain Dilip Vengsarkar to pave the way for a 52-run victory.

* Indian team bundled out for 135 in 41.3 overs in reply to West Indies' 187 for 7 from 45-over. "There was a devil in the wicket. The ball was keeping very low. It was a bowlers' game," Richards said.

* While Kapil Dev was at the wicket, India always had a slim chance of scoring their first one-day international triumph over West Indies since the World Cup final in 1983.

* But he was left stranded on 22 not out when the lower order batsmen capitulated to accurate pace bowling by Courtney Walsh and Patrick Patterson. Courtney Walsh - wbo finished with four for 16 from 7.3 overs.



West Indies scored 187-7 in the alloted 45 overs with top scorer by Viv Richards struck 41 off 52-balls, Phil Simmons struck 34 off 48-balls including 3-fours & a six, Gus Logie scored 34 off 40-balls included a boundary, Roger Harper 18 not out and Desmond Haynes 17.

India best bowler by Ravi Shastri picked up 3-wickets for 30-runs in 9-overs, Mohinder Amarnath took 2-wickets and one for Maninder Singh - Kapil Dev.

India bundled out for 135 in 41.3 overs with top scorer by Mohinder Amarnath scored 33 off consuming 70-balls including two boundaries.

Dilip Vengsarkar scored 24 off consuming 50-balls without a boundary and Kapil Dev hit a unbeaten 22 off 29-balls included a four.

West Indies best bowler by Courtney Walsh claimed a 4-wickets for 16-runs in 7.3-overs including two maidens with economy rate of 2.13.

Carl Hooper captured two-wickets for 10-runs in 4-overs including a maiden with economy rate of 2.50, Winston Benjamin, Patrick Patterson and Viv Richards each took one-wickets.

Viv Richards named Player of the match for his all-round performance to took 1-wicket for 37-runs in 8-overs after scoring a valuable 41 off 52-balls including one-six & a four.
