* Defending Champions India overwhelmed Zimbabwe by eight wickets in their Group A match in Bombay. Their success was never in doubt after seam bowler Manoj Prabhakar in his first four overs took four wickets in 17 balls to reduce Zimbabwe to 13 for four. His efforts earned him the man-of-the-match award.

* After the early setbacks, a brave and excellent innings of 61 off 102 balls by Andy Pycroft carried Zimbabwe to 135 all out in 44.2 overs.
India, needing to improve their run rate, raced to the required target of 136 for the loss of two wickets in only 27.5 overs.



Zimbabwe scored 135 for all-out in 44.2 overs with top scorer by Andy Pycroft hit 61 off 102-balls including two boundaries, Babu Meman 19 and Andy Waller 16.

India best bowler by Manoj Prabhakar claimed a career-best 4-wickets for 19-runs in 8-overs including a maiden, Maninder Singh picked up 3-wickets for 21-runs in 10-overs with economy rate of 2.10, Ravi Shastri and Laxman Sivaramakrishnan both took one-wickets.


India chased 136-2 in 27.5 overs with top scorer by Dilip Vengsarkar hammered a unbeaten 46 off 37-balls including 4-fours & 3-sixes with strike rate of 124.32.

Sunil Gavaskar struck 43 off 52-balls including 9-fours and Kris Srikkanth cracked a 31 off 38-balls included 4-fours.

Zimbabwe best bowler by John Traicos took 2-wickets.
