Najmul Hossain Shanto's superb 90 and Captain Shakib Al Hasan's quick-fire 85 sets up to Bangladesh chase down the record target of 280 against Sri Lanka by a stunning 3-wickets, despite a brilliant century from Charith Asalanka in a amid rare incident game of the 38th match of a Cricket World Cup.

  • This is the Bangladesh's first ODI win against Sri Lanka in the fifth ODI meeting between these sides in the ODI World Cup.

  • All-rounder Angelo Mathews became the first player to given timed out in One-day international cricket history, As he took more than two minutes to face the next ball after Sadeera Samarawickrama was out at 3:49 pm local time. Angelo Mathews was given timed out at 3:54 pm local time.
  • Charith Asalanka became the eighth Sri Lankan batsman to score a century against Bangladesh in ODIs.
  • 78 : Charith Asalanka and Dhananjaya de Silva set up the second highest sixth-wicket partnership for Sri Lanka against Bangladesh in ODIs, The highest is 82-run stand between Angelo Mathews and Chaturanga de Silva at Mirpur in the 2014 Asia Cup.
  • 169 : Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan set up the record third-wicket partnership for Bangladesh against Sri Lanka in One-day international, previously held by the 131-run stand between Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun at Dubai in the 2018 Asia Cup and also the Bangladesh's record third-wicket stand in the ODI World Cup, previously held by the 142-run stand between Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan against South Africa at The Oval in the 2019 World Cup.

* This win put Bangladesh moved at No. 7 position on the points table, giving them an edge in the four-way contest to fill the last two spots in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

* The rare incident took place midway through Sri Lanka's innings after Sadeera Samarawickrama was out, Angelo Mathews' faulty helmet strap meant that it had took over more than two minutes since the fall of the previous wicket without the new batsmen being ready to take strike. Shakib Al Hasan appealed. Mathews was out.



Sri Lanka scored 279 for all-out in 49.3 overs with top scorer by Charith Asalanka cracked a 108 off 105-balls - which was his 2nd ODI hundred, his first century against Bangladesh in ODIs and also his first century in the ODI World Cup - including 6-fours & 5-sixes.

Pathum Nissanka cracked a 41 off 36-balls including 8-fours with strike rate of 113.88, Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 41 off 42-balls including 4-fours.

Dhananjaya de Silva struck 34 off 36-balls including 4-fours & a six, Maheesh Theekshana scored 22 off 31-balls included 3-fours and Kusal Mendis 19.

Bangladesh best bowler by Tanzim Hasan Sakib picked up 3-wickets, Shoriful Islam, Shakib Al Hasan both took 2-wickets and one for Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Bangladesh chased 282-7 in 41.1 overs with top scorer by Najmul Hossain Shanto struck 90 off 101-balls who fell ten-run short of his century - including 12-fours.

Shakib Al Hasan hammered a 82 off 65-balls, Litton Das scored 23 off 22-balls including 2-sixes & 2-fours, Mahmudullah scored 22 off 23-balls included 3-fours & a six and Towhid Hridoy hit a unbeaten 15 off 7-balls contained 2-sixes with strike rate of 214.28.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Dilshan Madushanka picked up 3-wickets, Angelo Mathews, Maheesh Theekshana both took 2-wickets.

Shakib Al Hasan named Player of the match for his match-winning quick-fire 82 off 65-balls including 12-fours & 2-sixes with strike rate of 126.15.
