Pace bowler Courtney Walsh's four-wicket haul, Gus Logie's unbeaten half-century and Viv Richards' all-round display helped to West Indies comfortable five-wicket victory over India, despite a Indian bowlers fightback in a low-scoring game of the first match of a Champions Trophy.


India bundled out for 169 in 48.1 overs with top scorer by Navjot Sidhu scored 28 off 51-balls including 4-fours, Mohinder Amarnath hit 20 off 38-balls included 3-fours, Ajay Sharma 17, Kiran More 17 and Kapil Dev 16.

West Indies best bowler by  Courtney Walsh claimed a 4-wickets for 25-runs in 10-overs including a maiden with economy rate of 2.50, Curtly Ambrose and Viv Richards both took 2-wickets.

West Indies chased 173-5 in 47.5 overs with top scorer by Gus Logie hit a unbeaten 59 off 65-balls including 6-fours.

Keith Arthurton scored 48 off consuming 118-balls including two boundaries and Viv Richards struck 34 off 33-balls.

India best bowler by Arshad Ayub, Manoj Prabhakar both took 2-wickets and one for Ajay Sharma.

Viv Richards named Player of the match for his match-winning all-round performance smashed a unbeaten 34 off 33-balls including 4-fours & a six after taking 2-wickets for 44-runs in 10-overs.
