Wanindu Hasaranga's blazing half-century and Matheesha Pathirana's impressive four-for before Binura Fernando holds nerve as Sri Lanka thrilling 4-run victory over Afghanistan, despite a captain Ibrahim Zadran's fighting 67 in a nail-biter game of the first T20I.

  • Sri Lanka's 4-run win was their fourth smallest victory by terms of runs in T20 internationals.
  • Sri Lanka's 160 was their second highest score against Afghanistan in T20 international after their 179 at Sharjah in 2022.
  • Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium became the sixth Sri Lankan venue to host a T20 international match and the 194th venue in the world to host a T20I match.
  • Wanindu Hasaranga hammered a 24-ball seventh fastest fifty for Sri Lanka in T20 international and the fastest fifty by an Sri Lankan batsman against Afghanistan in T20Is, surpassing the previous record of 36-ball half-century held by Dhananjaya de Silva at Brisbane in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
  • Wanindu Hasaranga's 67 was his second highest score for Sri Lanka in T20 international and the second highest-score by an Sri Lankan batsman against Afghanistan in T20Is after Tillakaratne Dilshan's unbeaten 83 at Kolkata in the 2016 World Twenty20.
  • 72 : Sadeera Samarawickrama and Wanindu Hasaranga set up the record fifth-wicket partnership for Sri Lanka against Afghanistan in T20 international, previously held by the unbeaten 42-run stand between Tillakaratne Dilshan and Angelo Mathews at Kolkata in 2016 and the Sri Lanka's seventh highest fifth-wicket stand in T20Is.
  • Afghanistan's 156 was their second highest score against Sri Lanka in T20Is after their 175 at Sharjah in 2022.


Sri Lanka  scored 160 for all-out in 19 overs with top scorer by Wanindu Hasaranga hammered a 67 off 32-balls including 7-fours & 3-sixes with strike rate of 209.37.

Sadeera Samarawickrama hit 25 off 24-balls including 3-fours, Dhananjaya de Silva struck 24 off 17-balls included 2-fours & a six and Kusal Mendis 10.

Afghanistan best bowler by Fazalhaq Farooqi picked up 3-wickets for 25-runs in 4-overs, Naveen-ul-Haq, Azmatullah Omarzai both took 2-wickets and one for Noor Ahmad - Karim Janat.

Afghanistan scored in 20 overs with top scorer by Ibrahim Zadran hit a unbeaten 67 off 55-balls including 8-fours with strike rate of 121.81.

Karim Janat scored 20 off 16-balls including 3-fours and Gulbadin Naib hit 16 off 17-balls included 2-fours.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Matheesha Pathirana 4-24, Dasun Shanaka captured two-wickets, Angelo Mathews, Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana each took one-wickets.

Matheesha Pathirana named Player of the match for his pace bowling attack to claimed a 4-wicket haul for 24-runs in 4-overs.
