Half-centuries from Sanjay Manjrekar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Captain Mohammad Azharuddin's quick-fire 63 and A young Sachin Tendulkar's superb 31 helped to India emphatic five-wicket victory over England, despite a Robin Smith's brilliant century and clinch the Texaco Trophy with 2-0 whitewash in a high-scoring game of the second & final ODI.

Match Stats : 
  • India chased 282 was their highest successful run-chase in One-day international, previous highest chase was 279 against New Zealand at Vadodara in 1988.
  • Robin Smith became the fourth England batsman to score a century against India in ODIs after Dennis Amiss, Mike Gatting and Graham Gooch.
  • Robin Smith became the sixth England batsman to scored two centuries in ODIs.
  • India's 282 was their joint third highest score in One-day international and It is their highest total against England in ODIs, previous highest was 265 at Leeds in 1974.
  • England's 281 was their second highest score against India in ODIs after their highest total of 334 at Lord's in the opening match of inaugural first-ever 1975 World Cup.

England scored 281 for all-out in the allotted 55 overs with top scorer by Robin Smith struck 103 off 105-balls - which was his 2nd ODI hundred and his first century against India in ODIs.

Mike Atherton struck 59 off 95-balls including five boundaries, Jack Russell cracked a run-a-ball 50-runs included 4-fours and David Gower hit 25 off 30-balls contained 6-fours.

Manoj Prabhakar picked up 3-wickets for 58-runs in 11-overs, Kapil Dev took 2-wickets and one for Sanjeev Sharma - Ravi Shastri.

India chased 282-5 in 53 overs with top scorer by Mohammad Azharuddin hammered a unbeaten 63 off 44-balls including 7-fours with strike rate of 143.18.

Sanjay Manjrekar scored 59 off 94-balls including 4-fours, Dilip Vengsarkar struck 54 off 62-balls included 3-fours & 2-sixes.

Ravi Shastri hit 33 off 57-balls contained three-fours, Sachin Tendulkar cracked a 31 off 26-balls including 3-fours with strike rate of 119.23 and Navjot Singh scored 23 off 27-balls included 3-fours.

England best bowler by Eddie Hemmings captured two-wickets, Angus Fraser, Chris Lewis and Gladstone Small each took one-wickets.

Robin Smith named Player of the match for his brilliant batting performance to scored a 103-runs knocked off facing 105-balls including 11-fours.

Mohammad Azharuddin earned player of the series for India, He contributed 118 runs and Jack Russell for England, He hit 64 runs in the two-match series.
