A dashing but chancy century by Aamir Sohail and some inspired bowling by Wasim Akram helped Pakistan to a convincing 53-run win over Zimbabwe in the World Cup match at Hobart's Bellerive Oval.
Pakistan scored 4-254 off its 50 overs, while Zimbabwe could only manage 7-201 in reply.
Left-handed opener Sohail was the hero for Pakistan, cracking 114 runs, including 12 fours, off 136 balls. He was dropped four times.
Pakistan's vice-captain Javed Miandad continued his impressive form, smashing 89 runs off only 93 balls.
The Sohail-Miandad partnership yielded 145 runs off just 151 balls for the third wicket.
And Wasim Akram achieved a personal milestone when he became the second Pakistani, other than captain Imran Khan, to take 150 wickets in one-day internationals.
Zimbabwe needed a run rate of 5.08 an over to win the match but was struggling from the outset. After 30 overs Zimbabwe was 3-69 and unable to come to terms with Pakistan's tight bowling.
Zimbabwe captain David Houghton made an accomplished 44 but the Zimbabweans did not really get into top gear until Andy Waller and Ian Butchart came together and made a blazing stand of 79 off only 54 balls for the sixth wicket.
Houghton said after the match that his side had bowled well early against the Pakistani batsmen but then fell apart. He said off-spinner John Traicos, who he regarded as Zimbabwe's best and tightest bowler, gave away too many runs, conceding 63 with- out taking a wicket.
"Getting hit for 60-plus runs puts enormous hardship on the side," Houghton said.
Pakistan captain Imran Khan said he was pleased with his team's performance, although he had played a minimal role.
Imran did not bowl because of a shoulder injury and was not sure if he would play in Sunday's crucial game against England at the Ade- laide Oval.
