Another explosive innings by opener Mark Greatbatch blasted New Zealand to a four-wicket victory over India, almost certainly ending the 1983 champions' World Cup semi-final hopes.
The left-hander struck 73, launching NZ on a flying start for the third time in four innings. NZ hit its first 75 runs in 15 overs in pursuit of India's 6-230 from 50 overs.
NZ won at 6-231 with 2.5 overs to spare to stretch its World Cup winning streak to six games, a feat previously achieved only by West Indies, in 1983.
India, with just five points from seven matches and only one game to play in the preliminary round, cannot realistically hope to get through.
Greatbatch, out of form during England's recent tour of NZ and only included in the third Cup game because of an injury to John Wright, has been the most exciting batsman of the tournament.
As he did to the West Indian fast bowlers on Sunday, Greatbatch charged the Indian pacemen, twice sending Kapil Dev over the mid-wicket fence.
Also like the West Indies bowlers, the Indian pacemen were so frustrated at Greatbatch's tactics that there were verbal confrontations.
First Manoj Prabhakar and then Kapil had harsh words with him.
On a day when the weather was a mixture of sunshine, rain and a whirlwind, it was the Greatbatch whirlwind the Indians found hardest to deal with.
As the batsmen applied the pressure the Indian fielding lapsed, with misfields, overthrows, and missed catches.
But Greatbatch tried once too often going for the big hit, and was finally caught in the deep by Subroto Banerjee in Venkatapathy Raju's second over.
