Dominic Cork and Darren Gouch's combined 5-wickets before Graham Thorpe and Steve Rhodes' fifties steers to England comfortable four-wicket victory over South Africa and clinch the two-match series with 2-0 whitewash in a reserve day used second & final ODI.


South Africa scored 181-9 in the allotted 55 overs with top scorer by Daryll Cullinan cracked a 54 off 92-balls including 4-fours.

Gary Kirsten cracked a 30 off 78-balls including 3-fours, Craig Matthews scored 26 off 29-balls included 2-fours and Kepler Wessels hit 21 off 39-balls contained 3-fours.

England best bowler by Dominic Cork picked up 3-wickets for 49-runs in 11-overs including a maiden, Darren Gouch captured two-wickets, Phil DeFreitas took 1-wicket for 12-runs in 11-overs included four maidens with economy rate of 1.09 and Shaun Udal picked up 1-wicket.

England chase down the target of 182 for 6 in 48.2 overs with top scorer by Steve Rhodes struck 56 off 75-balls, Graham Thorpe cracked a 55 off 116-balls including 6-fours, 

Mike Atherton scored 19 off 50-balls included 2-fours and Chris Lewis hit a unbeaten 17 off 30-balls contained a boundary.

South Africa best bowler by Allan Donald took 2-wickets and one for Craig Matthews - Tim Shaw.

Steve Rhodes named Player of the match for his match-winning superb 56 off 75-balls including 7-fours.

Phil DeFreitas and Daryll Cullinan shared the player of the series awards, DeFreitas claiming 4 wickets and Cullinan contributed 99 runs in the two-match series.
