Opener Saeed Anwar's superb unbeaten century and Inzamam-ul-Haq's whirlwind unbeaten 91 leads to Pakistan resounding nine-wicket victory over Australia, despite a Mark Waugh's brilliant century and qualify for the final in the sixth match of a Wills Triangular Series.

  • Pakistan's 9-wicket win was their joint second largest victory by terms of wickets remaining in One-day international, it is their 3rd time win by nine wickets and first time Pakistan had defeated Australia by nine wickets in ODIs.
  • Mark Waugh's unbeaten 121 was the joint ninth highest score for Australia in One-day international and the joint second highest-score by an Australian batsman against Pakistan in ODIs, jointly with Dean Jones.
  • Mark Waugh became the fourth Australian batsman to scored four centuries in ODIs after Geoff Marsh's (9), Dean Jones' (7) and David Boon's (5).
  • Mark Waugh became the fourth Australian batsman to score a century against Pakistan in ODIs after Steve Smith, Dean Jones and Geoff Marsh.
  • Saeed Anwar became the fourth Pakistan batsman to scored seven centuries in ODIs after Javed Miandad's (8), Ramiz Raza's (8) and Zaheer Abbas' (7).

Australia scored 250-6 in 50 overs with top scorer by Mark Waugh cracked a career-best unbeaten 121 off 134-balls - which was his 4th ODI hundred and his first century against Pakistan in ODIs - including 9-fours.

Justin Langer cracked a 27 off 57-balls including 2-fours, Michael Bevan scored 22 off 37-balls included a boundary and Ian Healy hit 16 off 13-balls contained 2-fours.

Pakistan best bowler by Aaqib Javed captured two-wickets, Saleem Malik, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis each took one-wickets.

Pakistan chase down the target of 251 for 1 in 39 overs with top scorer by Saeed Anwar cracked a unbeaten 104 off 119-balls - which was his 7th ODI hundred and his first century against Australia in ODIs.

Inzamam-ul-Haq hammered a unbeaten 91 off 80-balls including 11-fours & 3-sixes with strike rate of 113.75 and Aamer Sohail blasted a 45 off 37-balls contained 7-fours & a six with strike-rate of 121.62.

Australia best bowler by Tim Shaw took 1-wicket for 65-runs in 9-overs.

Saeed Anwar named Player of the match for his match-winning superb unbeaten 104-runs knocked off facing 119-balls including 13-fours & a six.

Australian vice-captain lan Healy may have to be sent home after breaking his left thumb in the one-day international against Pakistan at Pindi Stadium.

Healy broke his thumb while wicketkeeping during the ninth over of Pakistan's innings as the home side completed an emphatic nine-wicket thrashing over Australia.

The Queenslander went to take a wide ball down leg side from fast bowler Craig McDermott and the ball jammed the end of his thumb. breaking the joint where the thumb meets the hand.

Healy had his thumb encased in plaster and team physiotherapist Errol Alcott said a serious break of this nature usually took up to three weeks to repair.

"The bone is fractured right through at the base of the thumb. and lan is obviously very upset at the moment." Alcott said.

"The thumb has to be immobilised and an injury of this sort usually takes about three weeks to heal."

Alcott said Healy would have further medical advice on what treatment is needed on his thumb while coach Bob Simpson said a decision on whether Healy would be sent home would not be made until on Monday.

If the vice-captain is forced out of the tour. New South Welshman Phil Emery would seem the most likely replacement now that Western Australian Tim Zochrer has fallen out of favour in his home state.

Healy has played his entire 64-Test career in succession since 1988 and his injury completed a dirty day for the tourists.

The Australians did well to reach 6-250 but the bowlers were pounded as Pakistan raced to 1-251 in reply from 39 overs, winning with 11 overs to spare.

Man of the match Saeed Anwar remained unbeaten on 104 while Inzamam Ul Haq belted 91 not out from only 80 balls, sharing an unbroken stand of 160 from 155 balls for the second wicket.

Inzamam hit 11 boundaries and three sixes while Saeed's seventh one-day ton was replete with 13 boundaries and one six of his own. coming up in 21⁄2 hours.

Australia's tally was built around Mark Waugh's highest score in one-day cricket, a sublime innings of 121 not out from 134 balls.

He brought up his century after 162min at the crease. pushing ace strike bowler Waqar Younis for a single to cover from the 112th ball he faced, and batted for 202min in all.
