Hashan Tillakaratne's unbeaten half-century, Sanath Jayasuriya's all-round display, Ruwan Kalpage and Pramodya Wickramasinghe's combined 5-wickets helped to Sri Lanka comfortable 32-run victory over England and take a 1-0 lead in a rain-affected game of the first ODI.

Sri Lanka scored 250-5 in the allotted 47 overs with top scorer by Hashan Tillakaratne hit a unbeaten 66 off 65-balls, Chandika Hathurusinghe cracked a 43 off 80-balls including 4-fours.

Arjuna Ranatunga scored 36 off 41-balls including a boundary, Aravinda de Silva struck 34 off 42-balls included one-six & a four and Sanath Jayasuriya hammered a unbeaten 34 off 22-balls contained 2-sixes & a four with strike rate of 154.54.

England best bowler by Devon Malcolm, Chris Lewis, John Emburey, Dermot Revee and Paul Jarvis each took one-wickets.

England bowled out for 170 in 36.1 overs - due to Heavy rain interrupted revised target of 203 from 38-overs - with top scorer by Neil Fairbrother cracked a 34 off 55-balls including a boundary.

Graeme Hick hit 31 off 42-balls including 5-fours, Phil DeFreitas struck 21 off 27-balls included one-six & a four, Paul Jarvis, Chris Lewis and Dermot Revee each scored 16-runs.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Ruwan Kalpage picked up 3-wickets for 34-runs in 8-overs, Pramodya Wickramasinghe, Sanath Jayasuriya both took 2-wickets and one for Champaka Ramanayake - Chandika Hathurusinghe.

Hashan Tillakaratne named Player of the match for his superb unbeaten 66 off facing 65-balls including 6-fours.
