West Indies vs Australia first ever ODI Match in World Cup

Prudential World Cup tournament Group B 11th match - first time one-day international cricket match played between West Indies vs Australia in the World Cup At The Oval in 14th June 1975 - West Indies won by 7-wickets with 84-balls spare.

Australia's demise against West Indies at The Oval in that day has not shattered the team's confidence for their World Cup semi-final against England on 18th June 1975.

Australia skipper Ian Chappell was emphatic after his Team Australia seven wicket defeat, "it's not time to start panicking" Ian Chappell said on that day.

Ian Chappell said "We did not batted, bowleded or fielded well against the West Indies but I know that we are a good side in all departments and we will prove it on Wednesday" in the 18th June 1975.

England Skipper Mike Denness is also confident of making the final.

Alvin Kallicharran clouted seven boundaries, a 6 and a single from hooks and drives during the eight and ninth overs from the Australian pace-man.

Kallicharran smashed 78 took 105 minutes and including 14 4s and a 6 and West Indian opener Roy Fredericks scored fantastic 58 off consuming 105 took exact 150 minutes.

The West Indies team batted, bowleded and fielded with discipline and sureness while the Australians were haphazard in each department.

Earlier, West Indies team winning the toss and decided to fielding first, Australia making 192 for all-out in 53.4 overs.

Australia's half team collapses at 61 then Ross Edwards takes responsible innings, He was scored a 58 off facing 74-balls and Rod Marsh scored a brilliant 52 off 84-balls.

West Indies bowler Sir Andy Roberts took 3 wickets, Keith Boyce, Sir Viv Richards takes 2 wickets and Bernard Julien & Vanburn Holder strikes 1-1 wickets.
