Steve Smith's career-best 164 sets up to Australia crushing 68-run victory over New Zealand, despite a powerful century from Martin Guptill and take a 1-0 lead in the first ODI.

Match Stats : Steve Smith's 164 was the joint seventh highest for Australia in One-day international, jointly with Ricky Ponting and the second highest score by an Australian batsman against New Zealand in ODIs. Steve Smith's 164 was the highest ODI score at the Sydney Cricket Ground, surpassing the previous record of unbeaten 162 by AB de Villiers against West Indies in last year. 164 : Steve Smith equalled a joint highest score by an Australian captain in One-day internationals, jointly 164 held by Ricky Ponting against South Africa at Johannesburg in 2006 and the joint seventh highest score by a captain in ODIs. 132 Innings : Martin Guptill became the fastest South African batsman to reach 5000 ODI runs in terms of Innings, surpassing the previous record of 144 innings took by Ross Taylor and the tenth fastest in ODIs. Australia's 324 was their eighth highest score against New Zealand in One-day internationals. 127 : Steve Smith and Travis Head set up the second highest fifth-wicket partnership for Australia against New Zealand in One-day internationals.

Travis Head struck 52 off 60-balls including five boundaries, Matthew Wade blasted a 38 off 22-balls included 3-sixes & a four with strike rate of 172.72.

David Warner scored 24 off 29-balls including 4-fours and George Bailey 17.

New Zealand best bowler by Trent Boult, James Neesham, Matt Henry each took 2-wickets and Debutant Lockie Ferguson - who took 1-wicket on his debut ODI match.

Colin Munro 49 off 59-balls - who fell one-run short of his half-century - including 4-fours & a six, James Neesham scored 34 off 36-balls included 5-fours and Matt Henry hammered a 27 off 15-balls including 4-fours & a six with strike rate of 180.

Steve Smith named player of the match for his career-best scintillating 164-runs knocked off facing 157-balls including 14-fours and 4-sixes with strike rate of 104.45.
