Graeme Hick's unbeaten century and Graham Thorpe's brilliant 89 before Phil DeFreitas and Peter Martin's combined 5-wickets helped to England registered their historic first T20I win against Netherlands by 49-runs in the 11th match of a Wills World Cup.

  • England's 49-run win was their seventh largest victory by terms of runs in World Cups.
  • Graeme Hick became the sixth England batsman to score a hundred in World Cups.
  • Graeme Hick became the first England batsman to score a century against Netherlands in One-day internationals.
  • 143 : Graeme Hick and Graham Thorpe set up the record third-wicket partnership for England in World Cup, surpassing the previous record of previously held by the 135-run stand between Bill Athey and Mike Gatting against Pakistan at Karachi in the 1987 World Cup and England's third highest any-wicket stand in World Cups.
  • England's 27 was their seventh highest score in World Cups.

England scored 279-4 in 50 overs with top scorer by Graeme Hick 104 not out - which was his 2nd ODI hundred, his first century against Netherlands and his first ODI hundred in World Cups.

Graham Thorpe struck 89 off 82-balls including 7-fours & a six, Neil Smith scored 31 off 33-balls included 5-fours and Neil Fairbrother 24 not out.

Netherlands best bowler by Floris Jansen, Roland Lefebvre, Paul-Jan Bakker and Steven Lubbers each took one-wickets.

Netherlands scored 230-6 in 50 overs with top scorer by Klaas-Jan van Noortwijk struck 64 off 82-balls including 3-fours & 2-sixes.

Bas Zuiderent scored 54 off consuming 93-deliveries including two boundaries, Tim de Leede cracked a 41 off 42-balls included 7-fours and Peter Cantrell hit 28 off 44-balls with 4-fours.

England best bowler by Phil DeFreitas picked up 3-wickets for 31-runs in 10-overs including three maidens , Peter Martin took 2-wickets and one for Dominic Cork.

Graeme Hick named Player of the match for his brilliant batting performance to scored a unbeaten 104-runs knocked off facing 133-balls including 6-fours and 2-sixes.
