Nathan Astle's brilliant century before Dion Nash and Gavin Larsen's combined 5-wickets helped to New Zealand narrow 11-run victory over England in the opening match of a Wills World Cup.

New Zealand scored 239-6 in 50 overs with top scorer by Nathan Astle 101 - which was his 3rd ODI hundred, his first century against England in ODIs and also his first ODI hundred in World Cup.

Chris Cairns cracked a 36 off 30-balls including 4-fours & a six, Stephen Fleming scored 28, Roger Twose and Shane Thomson each scored 17-runs.

England best bowler by Graham Hick takes 2-wickets, Richard IlIingworth, Dominic Cork and Peter Martin each took one-wickets.

England scored 228-9 in 50 overs with top scorer by Graham Hick struck 85 off 102-balls including nine boundaries.

Neil Fairbrother scored 36 off 46-balls including a boundary, Alec Stewart hit 34 off 71-balls included 3-fours, Dominic Cork 19 and Darren Gough 15 not out.

New Zealand best bowler by Dion Nash picked up 3-wickets for 26-runs in 7-overs, Gavin Larsen took 2-wickets, Danny Morrison, Chris Harris and Shane Thomson each took one-wickets.

Nathan Astle named Player of the match for his brilliant batting performance to scored a 101-runs knocked off facing 132-balls including 8-fours and a six.
