* India, a team of young mens created the biggest upset in modern cricket by beating the World champions West Indies by 43 runs in the final of the Prudential World Cup.

The result. the first tangible evidence that the men from the Caribbean, the most feared exponents of Test and one-day cricket since the mid-seventies are at last falling victim to age. and the wear and tear of playing the game 12-months a year around the world.

The Indians. led by 24-year-old all-rounder Kapil Dev, achieved what they have never been able to do away from home — courage. determination and grim application of all the tiny, but arduous demands of limited over cricket.

That meant athletic fielding. thoughtful backing up. tight bowling with particular attention to accuracy and length and, in a surpriingiy Iow-scoiing match, intelligent batting.

India scored 183 for all-out in 54.4 overs with top scorer by Kris Srikkanth struck 38 off 57-balls including 7-fours and a six, Sandeep Patil 27, Mohinder Amarnath 26, Madam Lal 17 and Kapil Dev 15.

West Indies best bowler by Andy Roberts picked up 3-wickets, Malcolm Marshall, Michael Holding, Larry Gomes each took two-wickets and one for Joel Garner.

West Indies scored 140 for all-out in 52 overs with top scorer by Viv Richards struck 33 off 28-balls including 7-fours with strike rate of 117.85, Jeff Dujon 25 and Malcolm Marshall 18.

India best bowler by Mahinder Amarnath, Madan Lal both picked up 3-wickets, Balwinder Sandhu took two-wickets and one for Kapil Dev - Roger Binny.

Mohinder Amarnath named Player of the match for his match-winning all-round performance to picked up 3-wickets for 12-runs in 3-overs after a scoring valuable 26-runs off consuming 80-balls including 3-fours.
