Joe Root's record-breaking double-hundred and bowlers attack helped to England's record 227-run victory over India and take a 1-0 lead in a one-sided game of the first Test match.

  • This is the England's first win against India at Chepauk, Chennai after 36-years.

England 1st Innings scored 578 for all-out in 190.1 overs with top scorer by Joe Root 218 off 377-balls - which was his 5th Test double-century and his first double hundred against India in Tests.

1st Innings England best bowler by Dom Bess claimed a 4-wickets for 76-runs in 26-overs including five maidens, James Anderson, Jofra Archer and Dom Bess each took 2-wickets.

England 2nd Innings scored 178 for all-out in 46.3 overs with top scorer by Joe Root 40, Ollie Pope 28, Dom Bess 25, Jos Buttler 24, Dan Lawrence 18 and Dom Sibley 16.

2nd Innings India best bowler by Ravichandran Ashwin claimed a 6-wicket haul for 61-runs in 17.3-overs including two maidens, Shahbaz Nadeem took 2-wickets and one for Ishant Sharma - Jasprit Bumrah.

India 2nd Innings 192 for all-out in 58.1 overs - with top scorer by Virat Kohli 72, Shubman Gill 50 and Cheteshwar Pujara 15.

2nd Innings England best bowler by Jack Leach claimed a 4-wickets for 76-runs in 26-overs including four maidens, James Anderson picked up 3-wickets for 17-runs in 11-overs included 4-maidens, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and Dom Bess each took one-wickets.

Joe Root named Player of the match for his masterclass batting performance to scored a record-breaking 218-runs knocked off facing 377-balls including 19-fours & 2-sixes.
