England captain Joe Root smashed a record-breaking 218-runs knocked off facing 377-balls including 19-fours and 2-sixes helped to England's 1st Innings set the massive total of 578 against India in the first Test match.
* Joe Root became the first batsman in the history of Test cricket to score a double century in his 100th Test match.
* 5 : Joe Root equalled a joint second most double centuries for England in Test matches, jointly with Alastair Cook.
* Joe Root became the third England batsman to score a five double-centuries in Test matches after Wally Hammond (7) and Alastair Cook (5).
* Joe Root's 218 was his fourth best score for England in Test matches and the fifth highest score by an England batsman against India in Tests.
* Joe Root's 218 was the highest score by an England batsman in India in Test matches, surpassing the previous record of 207 held by Mike Gatting at same venue in 1985.
Joe Root who slammed his 5th Test double-century - which was his first double-hundred against India in Tests and his 200 came from 341-balls.
