Sourav Ganguly's classy 98, Gautam Gambhir's fifty, Blazing half-centuries from Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni before Bowlers delivered to India hard-fought 14-run victory over West Indies, despite a Shivnarine Chanderpaul's masterclass 149* and take a 1-0 lead in a high-scoring epic game of the first ODI.

  • Shivnarine Chanderpaul's 149* was his second highest score for West Indies in One-day international and the joint second highest-score by an West Indies batsman against India in ODIs, jointly with Viv Richards' 149 at Jamshedpur in 1983.
  • West Indies' 324 was their joint seventh highest score in One-day international and It is their second highest total against India in ODIs.
  • India's 338 was their ninth highest score in One-day international and It is their highest total against West Indies in ODIs, previous highest was 325 at Ahmedabad in 2002.

India scored 338-3 in 50 overs with top scorer by Sourav Ganguly 98 off 110-balls - who fell two-run short of his century - including 11-fours & 3-sixes.

Gautam Gambhir struck 69 off 75-balls including 10-fours, MS Dhoni blasted a unbeaten 62 off 42-balls included 4-sixes & 3-fours with strike rate of 147.61.


Rahul Dravid hammered a unbeaten 54 off 35-balls including 4-sixes & 3-fours with strike rate of 154.28 and Sachin Tendulkar scored 31 off 38-balls included 3-fours.

West Indies best bowler by Chris Gayle took 2-wickets for 51-runs in 9-overs including a maiden.

West Indies scored 324-8 in 50 overs with top scorer by Shivnarine Chanderpaul 149 not out - which was his 5th ODI hundred & his second century against South Africa in ODIs.


Chris Gayle hammered a 52 off 46-balls including 10-fours with strike rate of 113.04, Marlon Samuels scored 40 off 60-balls included 3-fours & a six, Brian Lara blasted a 31 off 23-balls including 2-sixes & 2-fours with strike-rate of 134.78 and Dwayne Bravo 17.

India best bowler by Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh both took 2-wickets, Sachin Tendulkar, Ajit Agarkar and Sreesanth each took one-wickets.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul named Player of the match for his masterclass sensational fighting knock of unbeaten 149 off 136-balls including 16-fours and 3-sixes with strike rate of 109.55.
