Sensational all-round display from Ravindra Jadeja's record-breaking 175* with 9-wickets in an match, Rishabh Pant's power-packed 96 and Ravichandran Ashwin's all-round performance helped to India thumping innings & 222-run victory over Sri Lanka and take a 1-0 lead in a one-sided game of the first Test.

  • India's innings & 222-run win was their fifth largest victory by terms of innings & runs in Test matches and It is their second biggest win against Sri Lanka in Tests.
  • Virat Kohli became the 12th Indian batsman to appearance 100th Test match.
  • Sri Lanka became the eighth team to play 300 Test matches.
  • Rohit Sharma captained India for the first time in his 44th match. He became the 35th player to captain for India in a Test.
  • India's 574 was their eighth highest against Sri Lanka in Test matches and the second highest total at Mohali in Tests.
  • 104 : Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant set up the fifth highest sixth-wicket partnership for India against Sri Lanka in Test matches.
  • 130 : Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin set up the record seventh-wicket partnership for India against Sri Lanka in Test matches, previously held by the 125-run stand between VVS Laxman and Irfan Pathan at Ahmedabad in 2005.
  • 103 * : Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami set up the record ninth-wicket partnership for India against Sri Lanka in Test matches, previously held by the 89-run stand between Sourav Ganguly and Abey Kuruvilla at same venue in 1997 and India's ninth highest ninth-wicket stand in Tests.
  • Ravindra Jadeja's unbeaten 175 was his highest score for India in Test matches and the tenth highest-score by an Indian batsman against Sri Lanka in Tests.
  • Ravindra Jadeja's unbeaten 175 was the highest score by an Indian No.7 batsman in Test cricket history, surpassing the previous record of 163 held by Kapil Dev against same opponent at Kanpur in 1986 and the joint seventh highest-score by a No.7 batsman in Tests, jointly with KS Ranjitsinhji (ENG) against Australia at Sydney in 1897.
  • 436 : Ravichandran Ashwin became the second leading wicket-taker for India in Test matches after Anil Kumble's 619.
  • New Zealand lost their last six wickets for just 13-runs - which was their third worst six-wicket collapse in Test matches and it is their worst 6-wicket collapse against India in Tests. They went from 161 for 4 to 174 for all out. Their previous worst such collapse was six for 17-runs against Sri Lanka at Colombo (PSS) in 1985.
  • Ravindra Jadeja became the second Indian player to score a hundred or more runs and took 9 or more wickets in a Test match after Ravichandran Ashwin and overall the seventh player in Tests.

* Rishabh Pant's power-packed 96 off 97, Hanuma Vihari's half-century, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja's each 45 as India pile up 356 on the opening day of the first Test match.

* No.7 batsman Ravindra Jadeja's record-breaking 175* and Ravichandran Ashwin's superb half-century as India posted massive total of 574 before Sri Lanka 108 for 4 in the second day of the first Test match.


India 1st Innings scored 574-8 declared in 129.2 overs with top scorer by Ravindra Jadeja hammered a unbeatean 175 off 228-balls including 17-fours & 3-sixes.

Rishabh Pant hammered a 96 off 97-balls including 9-fours & 4-sixes, Ravichandran Ashwin blasted a 61 off 82-balls included 8-fours.

Hanuma Vihari 58, Virat Kohli 45, Mayank Agarwal 33, Rohit Sharma 29, Shreyas Iyer 27 and Mohammed Shami 20 not out.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Suranga Lakmal, Vishwa Fernando, Lasith Embuldeniya each took 2-wickets and one for Lahiru Kumara - Dhananjaya de Silva.

Sri Lanka 1st Innings scored 174 for all-out in 65 overs with top scorer by Pathum Nissanka 61 not out, Charith Asalanka 29, Dimuth Karunaratne 28, Angelo Mathews 22 and Lahiru Thirimanne 17.

1st Innings India best bowler by Ravindra Jadeja claimed a 5-wickets for 41-runs in 13-overs including four maidens, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin both took 2-wickets and one for Mohammed Shami.

Sri Lanka 2nd Innings scored 178 for all-out (Follow-on) in 60 overs with top scorer by Niroshan Dickwella 51 not out, Dhananjaya de Silva 30, Angelo Mathews 28, Dimuth Karunaratne 27 and Charith Asalanka 20.

2nd Innings India best bowler by Ravindra Jadeja claimed a 4-wickets for 46-runs in 16-overs including five maidens.

Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 4-wickets for 47-runs in 21-overs including five maidens and Mohammed Shami took 2-wickets.

Ravindra Jadeja named Player of the match for his sensational all-round performance to smashed a record-breaking career-best unbeaten 175-runs knocked off facing 228-balls including 17-fours & 3-sixes and took 9-wickers in an match.
