  • This is the second instance of four batsmen were scores of fifty or more runs in an innings in One-day internationals. Previous such instance came between Australia and Sri Lanka at The Oval in the inaugural 1975 World Cup.
  • Pakistan's 338 was their highest score in One-day international, previous highest was 330 against same opponent at Nottingham in the inaugural 1975 World Cup, It is the highest-score in ODI cricket history, surpassing the previous record of 334 held by England against India at Lord's in the inaugural 1975 World Cup and also the highest total in a World Cup history, previously held by 334 by England against India in 1975 World Cup.
  • Sri Lanka's 288 was their highest score in One-day international, previous highest was 277 against India at Delhi in 1982 and the tenth highest total in a World Cup.
  • 626 : This is the highest aggregate match in One-day international cricket history, beating previous record of 604 runs between Australia and Sri Lanka at The Oval in the inaugural 1975 World Cup.

* Pakistan started their campaign with a record total and a 50-run victory over gallant Sri Lanka in a Group A match.

* Sri Lanka made a solid reply reaching 288-9 in 60 overs, a record for a team batting second in the world cup, beating their own record of 276 against Australia at The Oval in the inaugural 1975 World Cup, A third record was the 626 aggregate of runs in the match.

* The Pakistan innings gathered momentum until it was in full attack in the afternoon with Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad and Imran Khan thrilling the crowd with their uninhibited strokeplay. It followed a superb innings of 82 from opener Mohsin Khan which won him the Man-of-the-match.

* Zaheer Abbas - who put on 68 run stand in 14 overs with Mohsin Khan and 73 run partnership in 10 overs with Javed Miandad, reached his 50 off 56 deliveries, finally lashing 11 fours in his 82 before falling to a catch at square leg off Ashantha de Mel.



Pakistan scored mammoth total of 338-5 in 60 overs with top scorer by Zaheer Abbas blasted a 82 off 81-balls including 10-fours.

Mohsin Khan cracked a 82 off 121-balls including 5-fours & a six, Javed Miandad hammered a 72 off 52-balls included 4-fours & 3-sixes with strike rate of 138.46.

Imran Khan blasted a unbeaten 56 off 33-balls including 6-fours & 2-sixes with strike rate of 169.69 and Mudassar Nazar scored 36 off consuming 72-balls including two boundaries.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Ashantha de Mel took 2-wickets and one for Vinothen John - Rumesh Ratnayake.

Sri Lanka scored 288-9 in 60 overs with top scorer by Brendon Kuruppu cracked a 72 off 101-balls including 7-fours & 2-sixes.

Guy de Alwis blasted a unbeaten 59 off 56-balls including 5-fours & a six, Somachandra De Silva scored 35 off 51-balls included a boundary.

Arjuna Ranatunga hit 31 off 42-balls including 5-fours and Duleep Mendis scored 16 off 17-balls included 3-fours.

Pakistan best bowler by Sarfraz Nawaz picked up 3-wickets for 40-runs in 12-overs including a maiden, Mudassar Nazar, Shahid Mahboob, Tahir Naqqash and Rashid Khan each took one-wickets.
