  • New Zealand's 104-run win was their third largest victory by terms of runs in One-day international and It is their second biggest win against Sri Lanka in ODIs after 116-run win at Auckland in the last year.


* The visitors exploiting some wayward bowling and poor fielding. They made 234 for six from their 42 overs after being sent in to bat by Sri Lanka.

* Sri Lanka started well in reply, reaching 54-run stand for the first-wicket between Sidath Wettimuny and Brendon Kuruppu, but their innings then went into a steady decline and they were bundled out for 130 in 37.3 overs.

* John Reid - which was his first overseas tour, was New Zealand's best batsman, making 80 from only 79-ball including 2-sixes and 2-fours. It was a performance that won man-of-the-match award.

* John Reid, who came in at the fall of the first wicket with the score on 58 started hesistantly but once established, lashed out at nearly every delivery to push the scoring rate to better than 5.5 runs an over.

* Martin Crowe, who scored 29 and joined John Reid in a third-wicket partnership of 47 runs in 8.2-overs.




New Zealand scored 234-6 in the alloted 42 overs with top scorer by John Reid cracked a 80 off 76-balls including 2-sixes & 2-fours.

Jeff Crowe scored a unbeaten 39 off 50-balls including one-six & a four, Geoff Howarth hi33 off 53-balls included 2-fours.

Martin Crowe scored 29 off 27-balls including 3-fours and John Wright 20.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Ravi Ratnayeke takes 2-wickets, Vinothen John, Ashantha de Mel, Somachandra De Silva and Arjuna Ranatunga each took one-wickets.

Sri Lanka scored 130 for all-out in 37.3 overs with top scorer by Brendon Kuruppu cracked a 38 off 55-balls including 4-fours.

Sidath Wettimuny, Arjuna Ranatunga each scored 16-runs and Duleep Mendis 15.

New Zealand best bowler by Richard Hadlee picked up 3-wickets for 22-runs in 8.3-overs, Stephen Boock took 3-wickets, Jeremy Coney, Ewen Chatfield and Lance Cairns each took one-wickets.
