Captain Viv Richards' blistering 39-ball 80 and A superb unbeaten 78 by Gus Logie powered West Indies emphatic eight-wicket victory over Pakistan and take a 1-0 lead in the first ODI.


* Viv Richards hit a blistering unbeaten 80, In just 39 minutes, including ten fours and four sixes, to earned the man-of-the-match award after Pakistan had set a 219-run winning target in the 40-over game.

* The West Indies home in 35.3 overs, reaching 224 for only lost the two wickets as Viv Richards closed proceedings with another six, But Pakistan were handicapped by an injury to skipper Imran Khan.

* The Pakistan skipper Imran Khan had not intended to bowling because of a hamstring injury. But with his attack suffering under a West Indian assault he was finally forced to bring himself on.

* Imran Khan's eight overs, bowled at much reduced pace, conceded 34 runs and without a wickets, but the real damage had been done when leg spinner Abdul Qadir was struck for 24 runs in one over and Tauseef Ahmed yielded 16 in another.

* Opener Desmond Haynes, who hit 39, and Gus Logie build a 97-run stand for the second wicket. Then Viv Richards in a typically blistering innings put things beyond doubt, joining in an unbeaten third wicket stand of 119 with Gus Logie, who finished an unbeaten 78.

* Opener Mudassar Nazar, who hit 77, and Imran Khan, with 45, were the main contributors for Pakistan's total of 218 for five in the alloted 40-overs.



Pakistan scored 218-5 in 40 overs with top scorer by Mudassar Nazar struck 77 off 122-balls including 6-fours & a six.

Imran Khan hammered a 45 off 31-balls including 6-fours & a six with strike rate of 145.16, Javed Miandad 22, Mohsin Khan and Ramiz Raja each scored 17 runs.

West Indies best bowler by Roger Harper, Michael Holding both took 2-wickets and one for Courtney Walsh.

West Indies chased 224-2 in 35.3 overs with top scorer by Viv Richards hammered a unbeaten 80 off 39-balls including 10-fours & 4-sixes with strike rate of 205.12.

Gus Logie cracked a unbeaten 78 off 107-balls including 11-fours and Desmond Haynes hit 39 off 59-balls included 4-fours.

Pakistan best bowler by Wasim Akram and Mohsin Kamal both took one-wickets.
