Half-centuries from John Wright, Andrew Jones and All-rounder Richard Hadlee's 3 for 35 & then hit 25 off 33 and Wicket-keeper Tony Blain's unbeaten 25 as New Zealand tense four-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in a last-over thriller of the fifth match of a Benson and Hedges World Series Cup.

* Man-of-the-match Richard Hadlee checked the Sri Lankan charge for runs late in their innings of 241 all out off 49.5 overs by taking three wickets, and then struck 25 off 33 balls to pilot New Zealand to a thrilling of victory.

* Richard Hadlee fell to the third ball of the final over bowled by Ravi Ratnayeke, but wicket-keeper Tony Blain hit a two and a four through mid-wicket off the fourth and fifth balls to give New Zealand their third win in four matches in the competition.

* Sri Lanka, still looking their first victory after three matches, appeared set for a total of 250-plus after half-centuries by opener Roshan Mahanama and Aravinda de Silva, until Richard Hadlee struck twice in his eighth over.

* He had Arjuna Ranatunga caught at deep mid-on for 42 and followed up by bowling Graeme Labrooy for nought to leave Sri Lanka in some disarray at 207 for eight.

* His final victim was Ratnayeke who made 23 off 26 balls. Hadlee finished with three for 35 from his 10 overs.

* The New Zealand reply was built around a second-wicket stand of 102 between John Wright, captaining the side in place of Jeff Crowe, who was rested, and Andrew Jones. - John Wright made 61 and Andrew Jones hit 63.



Sri Lanka scored 241 for all-out in 49.5 overs with top scorer by Aravinda de Silva struck 51 off 54-balls including 4-fours.

Roshan Mahanama cracked a 51 off 84-balls including 5-fours, Arjuna Ranatunga scored 42 off 53-balls included 3-fours & a six, Brendon Kuruppu, Ravi Ratnayeke each scored 23-runs and Asoka de Silva.

New Zealand chased 242-6 in 49.5 overs with top scorer by Andrew Jones cracked a 63 off 116-balls including 2-fours & a six.

John Wright scored 61 off 76-balls including 3-fours, Martin Crowe cracked a 39 off 42-balls included 4-fours, Richard Hadlee 25 and Tony Blain 25 not out.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Ravi Ratnayeke, Champaka Ramanayake both took 2-wickets and one for Aravinda de Silva.
