Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Ollie Pope and Tom Hartley stars as England comprehensive 28-run victory over India and take a 1-0 lead in the first Test match.

  • England's 28-run win was their smallest victory by terms of runs against India in Test matches, previous narrowest win by 31-runs at Birmingham in 2018.
  • England's 246 was their 18th lowest score in a completed first innings against India in Indian soil in Test matches.
  • 80 : Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma equalled a joint 14th highest first-wicket partnership for India against England at their home venue in Tests.

* Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal's scintillating unbeaten 76 helped to India solid reply after Indian Spinners Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel attack as England collapse for 246, despite captain Ben Stokes' fightback on the opening day of the first Test match.

* KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja's fifties leads India on top position and take a 175-run first innings lead on the day two of the first Test match.

* A magnificent innings from Ollie Pope's unbeaten 148 as England fightback and take a 126-run second innings lead on the day three of the first Test match.

* Debutant Tom Hartley's sensational seven-for gives England comprehensive win against India in the day four of the first Test match.



England 1st Innings scored 246 for all-out in 64.3 overs with top scorer by Ben Stokes blasted a 70 off 88-balls including 6-fours & 3-sixes with strike rate of 79.54.

Jonny Bairstow cracked a 37 off 58-balls including 5-fours, Ben Dockett hammered a 35 off 39-balls included 7-fours with strike rate of 89.74.

Joe Root scored 29 off 60-balls including a boundary, Debutant Tom Hartley - who hit 23 off 24-balls on his debut Test match - included 2-fours & a six with strike rate of 95.83 and Zak Crawley scored 20 off 40-balls with three boundaries.

1st Innings India best bowler by Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 3-wickets for 68-runs in 21-overs including a maiden, Ravindra Jadeja captured three-wickets, Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel both took 2-wickets.

India 1st Innings scored 436 for all-out in 121 overs with top scorer by KL Rahul cracked a 86 off 123-balls including 8-fours & 2-sixes with strike rate of 69.91.

Ravindra Jadeja hit a unbeaten 81 off 155-balls including 7-fours & 2-sixes, Yashasvi Jaiswal hammered a 80 off 74-balls including 10-fours & 3-sixes with strike rate of 108.10.

Axar Patel cracked a 44 off 100-balls included 7-fours & a six, Srikar Bharat scored 41 off 81-balls including three boundaries, Shreyas Iyer hit 35 off 63-balls contained 3-fours & a six.

Rohit Sharma hit 24 off 27-balls including 3-fours and Shubman Gill scored 23 off 66-balls included 2-fours. 

1st Innings England best bowler by Joe Root claimed a 4-wickets for 79-runs in 29-overs including five maidens, Rehan Ahmed took 2-wickets.

Debutant Tom Hartley - who took 2-wickets on his debut Test match and Jack Leach took one-wicket.

England 2nd Innings scored 420 for all-out in 102.1 overs with top scorer by Ollie Pope hammered a 196 off 278-balls - who fell four-run short of his second Test double-century - which was his 5th Test hundred and his first century against India in Tests.

Ben Duckett blasted a 47 off 52-balls including 7-fours, Debutant Tom Hartley - who scored 34 off 52-balls on his debut Test match - included 4-fours.

Ben Foakes scored 34 off 81-balls with two boundaries, Zak Crawley hammered a 31 off 33-balls included 4-fours & a six with strike rate of 93.98 and Rehan Ahmed scored 28 off 53-balls contained four-fours.

2nd Innings India best bowler by Jasprit Bumrah claimed a 4-wickets for 41-runs in 16.1-overs, Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 3-wickets, Ravindra Jadeja took 2-wickets and one for Axar Patel.

India 2nd Innings scored 202 for all-out in 69.2 overs with top scorer by Rohit Sharma struck 39 off 58-balls including 7-fours.

Srikar Bharat hit 28 off 59-balls including 3-fours, Ravichandran Ashwin scored 28 off 84-balls included 2-fours, KL Rahul hit 22 off 48-balls contained three-fours, Axar Patel 17 and Yashasvi Jaiswal 15.

2nd Innings England best bowler by Debutant Tom Hartley - who claimed 7-wicket haul for 62-runs in 26.2-overs on his debut Test match, Jack Leach and Joe Root both took one-wickets.

Ollie Pope named Player of the match for his magnificent batting performance to smashed a 196-runs knocked off facing 278-balls including 21-fours with strike rate of 70.50.
