Half-centuries from John Wright and Ken Rutherford before Bowlers helped to New Zealand narrow 7-run victory over England, despite a debutant John Morris' fighting half-century in a nail-biter game of the second match of a Benson and Hedges World Series Cup.


New Zealand scored 199-6 in the allotted 40 overs with top scorer by John Wright cracked a 67 off 88-balls including 6-fours.

Ken Rutherford scored 50 off 53-balls including two boundaries, Debutant Rod Latham - who hit 27 off 31-balls on his debut ODI match - included 2-fours and Martin Crowe 16.

England best bowler by Gladstone Small, Devon Malcolm both took 2-wickets and one for Angus Fraser - Eddie Hemmings.

England scored 192-9 in 40 overs with top scorer by Debutant John Morris - who hammered a unbeaten 63 off 45-balls on his debut ODI match - including 6-fours with strike rate of 140.

Allan Lamb struck 49 off 62-balls - who fell one-run short of his half-century - including 4-fours and Mike Atherton scored 33 off 73-balls included a boundary.

New Zealand best bowler by Chris Pringle picked up 3-wickets for 36-runs in 8-overs including a maiden, Richard Petrie, Danny Morrison both took 2-wickets and one for Willie Watson.

John Wright named Player of the match for his brilliant batting performance to scored a 67 off 88-balls including 6-fours.
