Match Stats : 
  • West Indies' 225-balls spare win was their second largest victory by terms of balls remaining in One-day international after their 236-balls spare win against Sri Lanka at Manchester in the inaugural 1975 World Cup.
  • Pakistan's six batters ducks in their innings in a ODI match - This is the second instance of Pakistan's six batsmen getting out for a duck in a ODI innings, previous only such instance came by Pakistan against England at Birmingham in 1987.
  • Pakistan's 43 was the lowest-score by any team in One-day international cricket history, surpassing the previous record of 45 by Canada against England at Manchester in the 1979 World Cup.
  • This is the fourth time Desmond Haynes fell for a first-ball duck out in One-day international - Haynes became the became the first West Indies opener to fall for a first-ball duck against Pakistan in ODIs.
  • The Cape Town ODI game produced the first ever instance of both team openers getting out for a first-ball ducks in the same match. Both Ramiz Raja and Desmond Haynes were out for golden ducks in this ODI.
  • This is the first-ever instance of both team openers to be dismissed off the first ball of a their innings in the same match.
  • The 23.4 overs faced by Pakistan in the Cape Town ODI - This is their second shortest completed innings of a ODI match after they have faced 19.5 overs when they were all-out for 71 also against West Indies at Brisbane in the 1992-93 Benson and Hedges World Series Cup.


* The West Indies set a record in one-day international cricket in Cape Town by bowling out World Cup holder Pakistan for only 43 runs.

* The West Indies needed just 19 overs and five deliveries to dismiss the Pakistanis on a treacherous pitch, and themselves quickly slumped to 3-11 in reply but made the required runs in 12.3 overs.


Pakistan bundled out for 43 in 19.5 overs with top scorer by Zahid Fazal cracked a 21 off 44-balls including 2-fours, Saeed Anwar 5 and Aaqib Javed 4 for not out.

West Indies best bowler by Courtney Walsh claimed a 4-wickets, Anderson Cummins picked up 3-wickets for 11-runs in 4-overs with economy rate of 2.75, Patrick Patterson captured 2-wickets for 14-runs in 6-overs and Phil Simmons took one-wicket.

West Indies chase down the target of 44, finishing at 45 for 3 in 12.3 overs with top scorer by Brian Lara hit a unbeaten 26 off 34-balls including 3-fours, Richie Richardson scored a unbeaten 7 off 29-balls included a four and Phil Simmons 2.

Pakistan best bowler by Wasim Akram captured 2-wickets for 22-runs in 6-overs and Waqar Younis took 1-wicket for 7-runs in 5-overs included a maiden with economy rate of 1.40.

Courtney Walsh named Player of the match for his pace bowling attack to claimed a 4-wickets for 16-runs in 9-overs including two maidens with economy rate of 1.77.
